TRIBE to host SUNSETWKN with the launch of RAINFOREST

In cel­e­bra­tion of its 20th an­niver­sary, TRIBE is set to launch its Car­ni­val 2024 pre­sen­ta­tion Rain­for­est with SUN­SETWKN (Sun­set Week­end) from Ju­ly 21-23, 2023.

Band­leader Dean Ackin said high­light­ing the is­sue of cli­mate change and the im­por­tance of en­vi­ron­men­tal preser­va­tion is at the top of the agen­da for TRIBE.

“With Rain­for­est, we in­tend to use the plat­form to call at­ten­tion and bring aware­ness to the as­pects of Trinidad and To­ba­go’s land­scape which are ir­re­place­able,” he said.

He added, “We want to un­der­score the im­por­tance of pro­tect­ing the en­vi­ron­ment and the ur­gent need for it to be done. Change in be­hav­ior is not ex­pect­ed to hap­pen overnight, how­ev­er, we can all start by tak­ing small ac­tion in the way we live our dai­ly lives and the way we do busi­ness with the goal of hav­ing a pos­i­tive im­pact on the world and the en­vi­ron­ment we live in.”

When the sun sets on Fri­day, T&T’s rich car­ni­val cul­ture will be show­cased on Ari­api­ta Av­enue sig­nal­ing the start of SUN­SETWKN.

It be­gins with SUN­SET THE­ATRE, which is be­ing pro­duced by The Lost Tribe un­der the lead­er­ship of its Cre­ative Di­rec­tor Valmi­ki Ma­haraj.

“This launch cel­e­brates not on­ly 20 years of TRIBE, but 20 years of in­no­va­tion, evo­lu­tion and progress in the car­ni­val in­dus­try,” said Ma­haraj.

“We have seen our in­dus­try grow from a space of her­itage in­to a space of the fu­ture, where there are op­por­tu­ni­ties for cre­ativ­i­ty in­dus­try and econ­o­my and we hap­py to be a part if it,” he said.

SUNsweat, a free fit­ness sweat will take place at the Nel­son Man­dela Park, on Ju­ly 22 from 7-11 a.m. The event in­cor­po­rates el­e­ments of this coun­try’s tra­di­tion­al mu­sic and dance in­to a fit­ness rou­tine, mak­ing it an ac­ces­si­ble and en­joy­able work­out for par­tic­i­pants of all ages.

The band launch will take place at Queen’s Park Sa­van­nah on Sat­ur­day, from 6 p.m.

TRIBE Fam­i­ly of Bands will of­fi­cial­ly re­veal the cos­tumes of all six bands un­der its um­brel­la —TRIBE, Bliss, The Lost Tribe, Harts, Rogue and Pure.

SUN­SETWK cul­mi­nates with SUN­SET JAM at the An­chor­age, Ch­aguara­mas on Sun­day from 1-8 p.m.

Ahead of its 20th an­niver­sary for Car­ni­val 2024, TRIBE will al­so be tak­ing on a new brand and iden­ti­ty in cel­e­bra­tion of its 20th an­niver­sary.
