The Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission (T&TEC) has confirmed that a person pictured in a viral social media post is an actual employee of the company.
“We can confirm that the person in the photo is an employee of a legitimate T&TEC contractor and was conducting authorised T&TEC business when the photo was taken,” the company said in an official statement.
The response comes after the social media post went viral, with an image of the person standing in front of a silver car, outside a gate. The post read: “Please be on the look out for this man and this vehicle visiting homes pretending to be from T&TEC. Information from T&TEC states otherwise. So please be alert.”
T&TEC, in its response, issued its own confirmation attached to the original viral post.

The company is encouraging members of the public to call the T&TEC Estate Police’s official hotline numbers to verify the identity of anyone claiming to be a T&TEC employee/contractor. It recommends that customers save the numbers for their area in their contacts list for ease of use.
“Customers are reminded that the Commission does, on occasion, carry out checks of meters and needs to access customers’ properties to do so,” T&TEC explained.
It added: “The Commission also engages in weekly disconnections for the non-payment of arrears, which may utilise contractors’ services. Employees or representatives are required to display their Commission issued identification and/or present it on request.”
