In a statement on Saturday morning, the TTPBA said, "Jones P’s lifetime in the media would not be soon forgotten, having worked in many spheres beginning in the early 1960’s as an amateur announcer on the Voice of Rediffusion wire radio service, moving on to be a trainee reporter at the Trinidad and Tobago Guardian, and crisscrossing print and broadcast media through the years."

Madeira served as a mentor to journalists throughout the Caribbean and beyond and his counsel was sought by many. "The history of media in Trinidad and Tobago and the region cannot be written without reference to this icon of professionalism and excellence in media and mass communication," the TTPBA added.
