Two men were arrested on Monday, following high speed chase and shoot out with the police in Arouca.
According to a police report, PCs London and Kokeran along with PC Skeete (who was in another vehicle), all were on patrol proceeding south along Cane Farm Road, at about 4:30 pm, when the officers saw a black Nissan Wingroad motor vehicle at the intersection of 2nd Street East and Cane Farm Main Road in Trincity with three occupants, including the driver, who is known to them as a firearm offender.
The officers attempted to intercept the vehicle, However, it eluded them, and a chase ensued. The vehicle eventually came to a stop at 5th Street, West Cazabon.
Police report that the driver and the rear right side passenger alighted from the vehicle and began running in a northerly direction towards an alley on the northern side of the roadway.
Police said the other back seat passenger pulled out a firearm from his waist and pointed it in the direction of the police officers who discharged their service issued firearms in the direction of the man, who continued running along the alley along with the driver.
PCs London and Skeete continued the chase, while PC Kokeran held the front seat passenger.
The gunman eventually escaped from the officers.
The driver subsequently was detained and searched and a quantity of marijuana was found on him. He was arrested and enquiries revealed that he was not the holder of a Driver’s Permit.
The front seat passenger also was detained and searched, and a quantity of marijuana was found in his possession, as well. He also was arrested.
Several other police units—including the Arouca Charge Room, Arouca CID, Piarco Mobile 1, ERP, and GEB—arrived at the location and a search was conducted for the back seat passenger; however, he was not found and remains at large.
The scene was visited by Insp Pitt, Ag Sgt Pamphille and was processed by the ND CSI Officers PC Barrath, PC Dookie and WPC Toussaint, and two 9mm spent shell casings were recovered.
The driver of the vehicle, a 21-year-old man of East Cazabon, Trincity, is to be charged with not having a driver's permit and Dangerous Driving, as well as possession of marijuana (82.3 grammes).
The front seat passenger, a 35-year-old man of Macoya Gardens, is to be charged with possession of marijuana (99.8 grammes).
