Two arrested after high-speed chase and shootout with police

Two men were ar­rest­ed on Mon­day, fol­low­ing high speed chase and shoot out with the po­lice in Arou­ca.

Ac­cord­ing to a po­lice re­port, PCs Lon­don and Kok­er­an along with PC Skeete (who was in an­oth­er ve­hi­cle), all were on pa­trol pro­ceed­ing south along Cane Farm Road, at about 4:30 pm, when the of­fi­cers saw a black Nis­san Wingroad mo­tor ve­hi­cle at the in­ter­sec­tion of 2nd Street East and Cane Farm Main Road in Trinci­ty with three oc­cu­pants, in­clud­ing the dri­ver, who is known to them as a firearm of­fend­er.

The of­fi­cers at­tempt­ed to in­ter­cept the ve­hi­cle, How­ev­er, it elud­ed them, and a chase en­sued.  The ve­hi­cle even­tu­al­ly came to a stop at 5th Street, West Caz­abon.

Po­lice re­port that the dri­ver and the rear right side pas­sen­ger alight­ed from the ve­hi­cle and be­gan run­ning in a norther­ly di­rec­tion to­wards an al­ley on the north­ern side of the road­way.

Po­lice said the oth­er back seat pas­sen­ger pulled out a firearm from his waist and point­ed it in the di­rec­tion of the po­lice of­fi­cers who dis­charged their ser­vice is­sued firearms in the di­rec­tion of the man, who con­tin­ued run­ning along the al­ley along with the dri­ver.

PCs Lon­don and Skeete con­tin­ued the chase, while PC Kok­er­an held the front seat pas­sen­ger.

The gun­man even­tu­al­ly es­caped from the of­fi­cers.

The dri­ver sub­se­quent­ly was de­tained and searched and a quan­ti­ty of mar­i­jua­na was found on him.  He was ar­rest­ed and en­quiries re­vealed that he was not the hold­er of a Dri­ver’s Per­mit.

The front seat pas­sen­ger al­so was de­tained and searched, and a quan­ti­ty of mar­i­jua­na was found in his pos­ses­sion, as well. He al­so was ar­rest­ed.

Sev­er­al oth­er po­lice units—in­clud­ing the Arou­ca Charge Room, Arou­ca CID, Pi­ar­co Mo­bile 1, ERP, and GEB—ar­rived at the lo­ca­tion and a search was con­duct­ed for the back seat pas­sen­ger; how­ev­er, he was not found and re­mains at large.

The scene was vis­it­ed by In­sp Pitt, Ag Sgt Pam­phille and was processed by the ND CSI Of­fi­cers PC Bar­rath, PC Dook­ie and WPC Tou­s­saint, and two 9mm spent shell cas­ings were re­cov­ered.

The dri­ver of the ve­hi­cle, a 21-year-old man of East Caz­abon, Trinci­ty, is to be charged with not hav­ing a dri­ver's per­mit and Dan­ger­ous Dri­ving, as well as pos­ses­sion of mar­i­jua­na (82.3 grammes).

The front seat pas­sen­ger, a 35-year-old man of Ma­coya Gar­dens, is to be charged with pos­ses­sion of mar­i­jua­na (99.8 grammes).
