Two men who were charged by PC Baboolal of the Anti-Extortion Unit with demanding money by menace were denied bail when they appeared in court on Monday.
David “Eggy” Glasgow, also called “Mohammed,” and Kyle “Dawood” Cruikshank were charged with five counts of demanding money with menace totalling $40,000 as well as possession of camouflage clothing.
Police said the men appeared before Master Shabiki Cazabon and were not called upon to plead.
Police said three victims reported to police that between November 19 and 26, two men repeatedly showed up at their job site in Gran Couva and demanded to see their boss. The men allegedly informed the victims that they were in charge of security in the area and demanded $40,000. They also reportedly threatened to burn the machinery stationed on the job site if the money was not paid.
After a report was made, an investigation was launched, spearheaded by ACP Richard Smith and supervised by Sgt. Bacchus, Cpl Phillips and Cpl Baksh of the Anti-Extortion Unit.
This was the second set of charges laid by officers of the unit since it was formed in September.
