The victims from this morning's horrific accident on the Sir Solomon Hochoy Highway have been identified as national footballer 27-year-old Shahdon Winchester; his friends Michael Bradshaw, Keston Nicholas and 30-year-old Djenne Hills-Dyer, a hairdresser.
The four friends were returning home after liming at a club in Couva, which is owned by a footballer.
According to police reports, at about 5:30am, a Nissan Xtrail was heading along the south bound lane. Upon passing the Union Road flyover, the driver lost control of the vehicle, pulled to the left and slammed into a T&TEC pole.
On impact, the transformer fell on the vehicle and exploded, causing the vehicle to become engulfed in flames.
The occupants were trapped in the vehicle and were burnt beyond recognition.
The blaze was extinguished by fire fighters, but no one was allowed to go close to the vehicle until the T&TEC crew gave the all clear.
The vehicle with the charred bodies was removed from the scene just after 9 this morning, and taken to a funeral home in San Fernando.
Police have confirmed that the vehicle is registered to Shahdon Winchester.
The accident caused traffic gridlock along the highway this morning.
