Vet­er­an pho­tog­ra­ph­er Rus­sell 'Butch' Lim Choy, 73, passed away at the fam­i­ly home, in St James, on Sat­ur­day morn­ing.

Lim Choy's nephew, Robert, post­ed on Face­book about his beloved un­cle, a renowned pho­tog­ra­ph­er, who was re­spon­si­ble for cap­tur­ing and doc­u­ment­ing so many mem­o­ries for thou­sands of peo­ple over the years­—from cal­en­dars to Car­ni­val, fam­i­ly pho­to­shoots to cor­po­rate events, and es­pe­cial­ly wed­dings.

Robert said he was so hap­py that Lim Choy was able to take the pho­tographs at his wed­ding with both of his broth­ers, Pe­ter and Al­lan, and three years lat­er, that he was able to meet his first great-niece.

He said his un­cle will be great­ly missed, for his dry sense of hu­mour, gruff but kind­ly na­ture, will­ing­ness to speak his mind when good ad­vice was sore­ly need­ed, and his un­shake­able faith in God Almighty.

Speak­ing to Guardian Me­dia about his un­cle, pho­tog­ra­ph­er Pe­ter Lim Choy said "Butch was an in­spi­ra­tion and in­flu­ence in my life. We did dif­fer­ent types of pho­tog­ra­phy, I worked events, he was more like wed­dings, por­traits, tele­vi­sion work.

"I tagged along at wed­dings with him for years. He was a huge in­flu­ence in my life, not nec­es­sar­i­ly on­ly pho­tog­ra­phy-wise.

"He'll be great­ly missed, he was a won­der­ful teacher. Butch was al­ways a very warm and gen­er­ous per­son.

"He was al­ways teach­ing up and com­ing pho­tog­ra­phers, host­ed pho­tog­ra­phy work­shops, and he shared his knowl­edge with me.

"He prob­a­bly wasn't the rea­son why I start­ed pho­tog­ra­phy, but once I got in­to it; he was a great re­source to im­prove, learn and to be men­tored by him."

Lim Choy was a mem­ber of the Fui Toong On As­so­ci­a­tion of T&T.
