The Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) says it has experienced several challenges recently with maintaining a consistent water supply to customers in the San Francique area, but expects to have the service restored by this coming weekend.
Customers in the San Francique zone receive a supply from the Caroni Water Treatment Plant, via the South Oropouche Booster and then the Thicke Village Booster.
“It is important to note that there are several landslip areas within the San Francique zone, which have been engaging the attention of the Ministry of Works and Transport. These landslips at times cause damage to the Authority’s pipeline infrastructure, leading to disruptions in service, which has occurred several times over the last few months,” a statement read.
Apart from these, WASA says there were also disruptions stemming from the South Oropouche/Thicke Village Boosters on July 2, due to leak repair at Mosquito Creek; July 9, due to reduced production at Point Lisas Desal Plant; August 8, due to leak repair at Saltmine Trace; and August 25 – 27, due to emergency repairs at the Caroni Plant.
WASA says it has been providing a supplementary truck borne water supply, with particular focus on customers at elevated points or at the extremities of the distribution system, who were most affected.
