Woman killed in highway accident

 A 52-year-old Champ Fleurs woman died while re­ceiv­ing med­ical treat­ment af­ter the ve­hi­cle she was in was hit by an­oth­er ve­hi­cle along the Churchill Roo­sevelt High­way in Trinci­ty yes­ter­day.

The woman was iden­ti­fied as Nicole Figuera.

Ac­cord­ing to po­lice re­ports, at about 7.30 am Figuera was in a grey Nis­san Ser­e­na with her 56-year-old hus­band, who was dri­ving. While pro­ceed­ing east, their ve­hi­cle was struck by a Nis­san Primera. Up­on im­pact the two ve­hi­cles crashed along the north­ern em­bank­ment just be­fore the Pop­eye’s fast-food out­let.

Figuera, po­lice said, suf­fered ex­ten­sive in­juries to her legs and chest. The in­jured woman and her hus­band were tak­en to the Ari­ma Hos­pi­tal but she was pro­nounced dead at 8.15 am. Her hus­band al­so un­der­went emer­gency sur­gi­cal pro­ce­dures and was hos­pi­talised up to last night. Peo­ple in the oth­er ve­hi­cle were al­so hos­pi­talised.

Po­lice said the 22-year-old dri­ver of the Primera, a 22-year-old from Perkins Street, Arou­ca, told po­lice he was pro­ceed­ing east in the cen­tre lane when got a bad dri­ve which caused him to lose con­trol of the ve­hi­cle.
