A 52-year-old Champ Fleurs woman died while receiving medical treatment after the vehicle she was in was hit by another vehicle along the Churchill Roosevelt Highway in Trincity yesterday.
The woman was identified as Nicole Figuera.
According to police reports, at about 7.30 am Figuera was in a grey Nissan Serena with her 56-year-old husband, who was driving. While proceeding east, their vehicle was struck by a Nissan Primera. Upon impact the two vehicles crashed along the northern embankment just before the Popeye’s fast-food outlet.
Figuera, police said, suffered extensive injuries to her legs and chest. The injured woman and her husband were taken to the Arima Hospital but she was pronounced dead at 8.15 am. Her husband also underwent emergency surgical procedures and was hospitalised up to last night. People in the other vehicle were also hospitalised.
Police said the 22-year-old driver of the Primera, a 22-year-old from Perkins Street, Arouca, told police he was proceeding east in the centre lane when got a bad drive which caused him to lose control of the vehicle.
