A man who kidnapped and raped his ex-girlfriend on Monday is now in custody after she was rescued by police in Princes Town.
According to reports, the 34-year-old woman was travelling in a taxi with her stepfather along Manahambre Road on Monday, heading towards Princes Town.
When the taxi approached Randy’s Tyre Shop at Centenary Street junction around 9.10 am, a silver Nissan B15 driven by the 31-year-old suspect swerved in front of it, causing the driver to stop.
Police said the suspect exited his vehicle, pulled the victim out of the taxi, and pushed her into his car.
He allegedly took her to a house in St Julien Village, Princes Town, where he raped her. The woman’s stepfather contacted the Princes Town police. The officers visited the scene, searched for CCTV footage and interviewed people.
Based on the information received, the officers went to a house in St Julien Village and arrested the suspect.
The victim was taken to the Princes Town District Health facility for examination and treatment.
Investigations are continuing.
