Woman rescued after being kidnapped, raped by ex-boyfriend

A man who kid­napped and raped his ex-girl­friend on Mon­day is now in cus­tody af­ter she was res­cued by po­lice in Princes Town.

Ac­cord­ing to re­ports, the 34-year-old woman was trav­el­ling in a taxi with her step­fa­ther along Man­a­ham­bre Road on Mon­day, head­ing to­wards Princes Town.

When the taxi ap­proached Randy’s Tyre Shop at Cen­te­nary Street junc­tion around 9.10 am, a sil­ver Nis­san B15 dri­ven by the 31-year-old sus­pect swerved in front of it, caus­ing the dri­ver to stop.

Po­lice said the sus­pect ex­it­ed his ve­hi­cle, pulled the vic­tim out of the taxi, and pushed her in­to his car. 

He al­leged­ly took her to a house in St Julien Vil­lage, Princes Town, where he raped her. The woman’s step­fa­ther con­tact­ed the Princes Town po­lice. The of­fi­cers vis­it­ed the scene, searched for CCTV footage and in­ter­viewed peo­ple. 

Based on the in­for­ma­tion re­ceived, the of­fi­cers went to a house in St Julien Vil­lage and ar­rest­ed the sus­pect. 

The vic­tim was tak­en to the Princes Town Dis­trict Health fa­cil­i­ty for ex­am­i­na­tion and treat­ment.
