Xhaiden is new Junior Schools Intellectual Chutney champ

Eight-year-old Xhaiden Dar­ius has added an­oth­er ti­tle to his tro­phy cab­i­net for the sea­son, af­ter tak­ing the Ju­nior School’s In­tel­lec­tu­al Na­tion­al Chut­ney Monarch ti­tle yes­ter­day.

Dar­ius, a Savonet­ta Pri­vate School stu­dent, de­feat­ed last year’s champ, Katelin Sul­tan, with his ren­di­tion of Melody of Chut­ney dur­ing the event at the NCIC Na­gar, Ch­agua­nas.

He was con­grat­u­lat­ed with a big hug from Sul­tan, a stu­dent of the War­renville TIA, when the an­nounce­ment was made by the Na­tion­al Chut­ney Foun­da­tion of T&T (NCFTT) and Tas­sa As­so­ci­a­tion of T&T (TATT).

Celebrit-T Charles, of Low­er Mor­vant Pri­ma­ry, placed third.

Dar­ius is al­so the Ju­nior Ca­lyp­so Monarch and placed third in the Schools So­ca Monarch Com­pe­ti­tion.

Dabria Bap­tiste, a stu­dent of St Joseph’s Con­vent, San Fer­nan­do, took the Se­nior ti­tle with I Want to Sing, a song about her de­sire to sing chut­ney mu­sic.

Mar­cus Mc­Don­ald and Darien Mc­Don­ald, of Pre­sen­ta­tion Col­lege, San Fer­nan­do, placed sec­ond and third re­spec­tive­ly.

Mean­while, the Na­tion­al Tas­sara­ma Com­pe­ti­tion saw Pre­sen­ta­tion Col­lege, Ch­agua­nas, win­ning first place among the se­niors, while there was a tie be­tween Debe Hin­du School and Av­o­cat Vedic School for first place in the ju­niors’ event.

Cur­ricu­lum co­or­di­na­tor for the Vi­su­al and Per­form­ing Arts Unit at the Min­istry of Ed­u­ca­tion, Reynold Ram­lo­gan, as­sured that out­stand­ing prize mon­ey for the 2024 and 2025 com­pe­ti­tions were be­ing processed. He al­so said the min­istry will part­ner with the NCFTT and TATT for fu­ture events.
