T&T's Michelle-Lee Ahye was a fifth-place fin­ish­er in semi­fi­nal heat one in the women's 100m dash and did not ad­vance to the fi­nal on Mon­day at the World Ath­let­ics Cham­pi­onship in Hun­gary.

The medal race turned out to be a thrilling af­fair at Bu­dapest23 with Amer­i­can Sha'Car­ri Richard­son win­ning gold in a Cham­pi­onship record time of 10.65 sec­onds. The Amer­i­can run­ning lane nine, spoiled the Ja­maican sweep of the top two spots, de­feat­ing Sh­er­ic­ka Jack­son in­to sec­ond with 10.72 and third-placed de­fend­ing cham­pi­on Shelly-Ann Fras­er-Pryce, who ran a sea­son's best 10.77.

Fill­ing the re­main­ing spots were Ivory Coast's Marie-Josee Ta Lou in fourth spot with 10.81, Julien Al­fred of St Lu­cia with 10.93 in fifth, Poland's Ewa Swo­bo­da in sixth with a per­son­al best 10.97, USA's Brit­tany Brown al­so with a 10.97 for sev­enth spot and Di­na Ash­er-Smith (Great Britain) and Tamari Davis (USA), with 11.00 and 11.03, re­spec­tive­ly.

Ear­li­er, Ahye, run­ning out of lane three clocked 11.18 sec­onds and fin­ished tied for fifth spot with Gi­na Luck­enkem­per of Ger­many in the open­ing heat which was won by Fras­er-Pryce with a time of 10.89, fol­lowed by Amer­i­can Tamari Davis with 10.98 in sec­ond place. Al­so fin­ish­ing ahead of the T&T sprint­er was Swo­bo­da in third place with 11.01 and Great Britain's Daryll Nei­ta with 11.03.

Fras­er-Pryce, a five time World cham­pi­on, and Davis ad­vanced out of the first heat as the au­to­mat­ic qual­i­fiers while Swo­bo­da qual­i­fied as one of the fastest losers.

Even­tu­al cham­pi­on Richard­son pro­gressed to the fi­nal as one of the fastest fin­ish­ers af­ter plac­ing third in heat two be­hind joint win­ners Jack­son (10.79) and Ta Lou (10.79). The oth­er three fi­nal­ists emerged out of the third heat which was won by Al­fred in 10.92 and she was joined by sec­ond-placed Brown (10.97) as the au­to­mat­ic qual­i­fiers. The oth­er qual­i­fi­er Ash­er-Smith was third with an 11.01-tim­ing.
