Ali strike hands Ansa Bank first defeat

Niko­las Ali net­ted the lone item as C-Sport in­flict­ed the first de­feat on ti­tle-hold­ers Ansa Bank as the 36 to 45 age group di­vi­sion of the Queen’s Park Crick­et Club 8-A-Side Foot­ball Tour­na­ment con­tin­ued at the Queen’s Park Oval, St Clair, Port-of-Spain, on Mon­day night.

De­spite the loss, Ansa Bank still leads the sev­en-team ta­ble with 16 points from sev­en match­es, six ahead of Harts, who with a match in hand, de­feat­ed bot­tom dwellers Kyra In­vest­ments 2-0 through goals from De­von Al­leyne, and Stu­art Ra­hael in the oth­er match.

Domi­no’s, who edged De­gree 1-0 on a goal from Brett D'Abreau, is cur­rent­ly joint third with C-Sport in this cat­e­go­ry, with the teams on nine points from sev­en and eight match­es re­spec­tive­ly.

In the 35 and un­der Di­vi­sion, Karcher slowed the march of The Pouch Com­pa­ny to­wards the ti­tle by hold­ing the favourites in a tense 1-1 draw. Dil­lon Abra­ham was on tar­get for Karcher who stayed joint fourth on the eight-club stand­ings on 12 points with Full Bar­rel Sports Bar. The Pouch Com­pa­ny leads with 22 points, five more than BMW which blanked Ready Fred­die 2-0, with Jor­dan Vieira and De­vis San­tos on tar­get.

In the oth­er Un­der-35 match­es, King Signs stayed sec­ond with 17 points thanks to a com­fort­able 4-0 beat­ing of Tribe led by a dou­ble from Luke Dar­went and the Mows­er broth­ers, Kyle and Rya were on tar­get with braces as Full Bar­rel Sports Bar thrashed Tribe 4-0.

In the fi­nal cat­e­go­ry con­test­ed on the night, Stephen Car­de­nas scored both goals to earn de­fend­ing 54-60 di­vi­sion cham­pi­on, All Out Sports Bar, a 2-0 tri­umph over De­vel­op­ment, to move to 12 points from eight match­es. They are still, how­ev­er, one adrift of lead­ers SAS, who al­so have the lux­u­ry of play­ing two match­es less, while House Hunters and Car­pen­ter's Edge are joint third with 11 points each, fol­lowed by Steel Drum with ten.

This year’s tour­na­ment is spon­sored by plat­inum and gold spon­sors, Carib Beer and BMW Trinidad, re­spec­tive­ly, and fea­tures 32 spon­sored teams com­pet­ing across five age groups.

The fi­nals are set to be con­test­ed on Oc­to­ber 6 with match­es con­tin­u­ing at Queens Park Oval on Mon­days, Wednes­days and Fri­days un­til then, be­gin­ning at 5.30 pm each day.
