Nikolas Ali netted the lone item as C-Sport inflicted the first defeat on title-holders Ansa Bank as the 36 to 45 age group division of the Queen’s Park Cricket Club 8-A-Side Football Tournament continued at the Queen’s Park Oval, St Clair, Port-of-Spain, on Monday night.
Despite the loss, Ansa Bank still leads the seven-team table with 16 points from seven matches, six ahead of Harts, who with a match in hand, defeated bottom dwellers Kyra Investments 2-0 through goals from Devon Alleyne, and Stuart Rahael in the other match.
Domino’s, who edged Degree 1-0 on a goal from Brett D'Abreau, is currently joint third with C-Sport in this category, with the teams on nine points from seven and eight matches respectively.
In the 35 and under Division, Karcher slowed the march of The Pouch Company towards the title by holding the favourites in a tense 1-1 draw. Dillon Abraham was on target for Karcher who stayed joint fourth on the eight-club standings on 12 points with Full Barrel Sports Bar. The Pouch Company leads with 22 points, five more than BMW which blanked Ready Freddie 2-0, with Jordan Vieira and Devis Santos on target.
In the other Under-35 matches, King Signs stayed second with 17 points thanks to a comfortable 4-0 beating of Tribe led by a double from Luke Darwent and the Mowser brothers, Kyle and Rya were on target with braces as Full Barrel Sports Bar thrashed Tribe 4-0.
In the final category contested on the night, Stephen Cardenas scored both goals to earn defending 54-60 division champion, All Out Sports Bar, a 2-0 triumph over Development, to move to 12 points from eight matches. They are still, however, one adrift of leaders SAS, who also have the luxury of playing two matches less, while House Hunters and Carpenter's Edge are joint third with 11 points each, followed by Steel Drum with ten.
This year’s tournament is sponsored by platinum and gold sponsors, Carib Beer and BMW Trinidad, respectively, and features 32 sponsored teams competing across five age groups.
The finals are set to be contested on October 6 with matches continuing at Queens Park Oval on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays until then, beginning at 5.30 pm each day.
