T&T's Tamia Badal put together a fine race to take second place in the women's 400 metres hurdles event at the Air Force Twilight Open in Colorado Springs in the United States on May 7.
The University of Colorado freshman clocked one minute and 02.13 seconds as she and her teammates swept the top four spots in their tune-up for the upcoming Pac-12 Championships in Los Angeles. The three-day meet is set to start on Friday (May 14).
Badal had another strong showing in the sprint relays as her team raced to the top spot in the 4x100m with a time of 45.97 seconds.
At the Life U Last Chance in Marietta, Georgia, Iantha Wright of Life University also had success in the relays. The freshman was part of the winning 4x100m quartet (46.66) and the 4x400m (3:59.29).
Northern Iowa freshman Jabari Fox was a fourth-place finisher in the men's 200m at the South Dakota Tune-up in Greenfield also on Friday. He crossed in a time of 21.63 (1.7).
His schoolmate, quartermiler Onal Mitchell placed 16th in the men's 400m. The Northern Iowa Sophomore clocked 50.78 in the timed final.
Jumper Alisha St Louis competed in in one event at the Mid-Eastern Conference (MAC) Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Oxford, Ohio over the weekend.
The Eastern Michigan University graduate student finished seventh in the triple jump with a mark of 11.97m, bettering her finish at the MAC Indoor Championships where her 11.65m-mark placed her 10th back in February.
With the regular season closed over the past weekend, several of T&T's leading collegiate athletes including Tyra Gittens, Cherisse Murray and Dwight St Hillaire will open their postseason at the Southeastern Conference (SEC) Championships in College Station, Texas starting today.
Gittens of Texas A&M, host of the SEC meet, will seek to continue her domination in the heptathlon. The redshirt junior is coming off a victory in the high jump event with a clearance at 1.84m on Saturday at the Aggie Invitational at the same venue.
Murray, a senior at the University of Alabama, will be encouraged by her first place finish in the women's shot put (16.76m) at her school's last regular-season meet, Saturday's LSU Invitational in Baton Rouge.
University of Kentucky's St Hillaire will be also buoyed by his performance in his final tune-up at the Kentucky Invitational also on Saturday, where he continued his outstanding campaign speeding to victory in the 400m in a time of 45.81 seconds.
