Badal 2nd in 400m hurdles at Twilight Open

T&T's Tamia Badal put to­geth­er a fine race to take sec­ond place in the women's 400 me­tres hur­dles event at the Air Force Twi­light Open in Col­orado Springs in the Unit­ed States on May 7.

The Uni­ver­si­ty of Col­orado fresh­man clocked one minute and 02.13 sec­onds as she and her team­mates swept the top four spots in their tune-up for the up­com­ing Pac-12 Cham­pi­onships in Los An­ge­les. The three-day meet is set to start on Fri­day (May 14).

Badal had an­oth­er strong show­ing in the sprint re­lays as her team raced to the top spot in the 4x100m with a time of 45.97 sec­onds.

At the Life U Last Chance in Ma­ri­et­ta, Geor­gia, Iantha Wright of Life Uni­ver­si­ty al­so had suc­cess in the re­lays. The fresh­man was part of the win­ning 4x100m quar­tet (46.66) and the 4x400m (3:59.29).

North­ern Iowa fresh­man Jabari Fox was a fourth-place fin­ish­er in the men's 200m at the South Dako­ta Tune-up in Green­field al­so on Fri­day. He crossed in a time of 21.63 (1.7).

His school­mate, quar­ter­mil­er On­al Mitchell placed 16th in the men's 400m. The North­ern Iowa Sopho­more clocked 50.78 in the timed fi­nal.

Jumper Al­isha St Louis com­pet­ed in in one event at the Mid-East­ern Con­fer­ence (MAC) Out­door Track & Field Cham­pi­onships in Ox­ford, Ohio over the week­end.

The East­ern Michi­gan Uni­ver­si­ty grad­u­ate stu­dent fin­ished sev­enth in the triple jump with a mark of 11.97m, bet­ter­ing her fin­ish at the MAC In­door Cham­pi­onships where her 11.65m-mark placed her 10th back in Feb­ru­ary.

With the reg­u­lar sea­son closed over the past week­end, sev­er­al of T&T's lead­ing col­le­giate ath­letes in­clud­ing Tyra Git­tens, Cherisse Mur­ray and Dwight St Hillaire will open their post­sea­son at the South­east­ern Con­fer­ence (SEC) Cham­pi­onships in Col­lege Sta­tion, Texas start­ing to­day.

Git­tens of Texas A&M, host of the SEC meet, will seek to con­tin­ue her dom­i­na­tion in the hep­tathlon. The red­shirt ju­nior is com­ing off a vic­to­ry in the high jump event with a clear­ance at 1.84m on Sat­ur­day at the Ag­gie In­vi­ta­tion­al at the same venue.

Mur­ray, a se­nior at the Uni­ver­si­ty of Al­aba­ma, will be en­cour­aged by her first place fin­ish in the women's shot put (16.76m) at her school's last reg­u­lar-sea­son meet, Sat­ur­day's LSU In­vi­ta­tion­al in Ba­ton Rouge.

Uni­ver­si­ty of Ken­tucky's St Hillaire will be al­so buoyed by his per­for­mance in his fi­nal tune-up at the Ken­tucky In­vi­ta­tion­al al­so on Sat­ur­day, where he con­tin­ued his out­stand­ing cam­paign speed­ing to vic­to­ry in the 400m in a time of 45.81 sec­onds.
