T&T’s Make­da Bain con­tin­ued her rich vein of form when she breezed in­to the semi­inals of the Girls Un­der-14 Sin­gles in the Cen­tral Amer­i­ca and the Caribbean Ten­nis Con­fed­er­a­tion (COTECC)-Trinidad In­ter­na­tion­al Ju­nior (U-14) Ten­nis Tour­na­ment at the Na­tion­al Rac­quet Cen­tre, Or­ange Grove Road, Tacarigua, Monday.

The win­ner of the sin­gles ti­tle and dou­bles with Suri­name’s Cy­belle Fer­ri­er in the Bar­ba­dos leg of the com­pe­ti­tion last week­end at the Ray­mond Forde Na­tion­al Ten­nis Cen­tre in St Michael, Bain stayed on course for the girls U-14 sin­gles crown on home soil when she swept past Sofia Gutier­rez of El Sal­vador 6-1, 6-1 in her quar­ter­fi­nal and will face coun­try­woman Cher­dine Sylvester in the semi­fi­nals to­day af­ter the lat­ter hum­bled St Vin­cent and The Grenadines’ Danelle Kennedy 6-1, 6-2.

On the oth­er side of the draw, the sec­ond-ranked Cyra Ram­cha­ran, the run­ner-up to Bain in Bar­ba­dos last week, whipped fel­low T&T play­er Karis­sa Mo­hammed 6-3, 6-1 in her quar­ter­fi­nal to set up a meet­ing with Fer­ri­er, who won her quar­ter­fi­nal 6-0, 6-0 over lo­cal en­trant Samiyah Mo­hammed.

Al­so at Tacarigua, in the Trin­i­ty Ju­niors Un­der-12 Trin­i­ty Cup, top-ranked Eli Paty and Dhruv Ramb­ha­jan set up a meet­ing for the Boys U-12 Sin­gles ti­tle, while in the Girls Un­der-12 cham­pi­onship match, top-seed­ed Tei­jha Welling­ton faces Anaya Roberts.

This was af­ter Paty whipped Ethan Primus 6-1, 6-1, and Ramb­ha­jan up­staged sec­ond-ranked Austin Ward 6-2, 6-3 in the boys semi­fi­nals.

Paty will al­so con­test the dou­bles fi­nal with Ryan Steuart af­ter they beat Har­ri­son Hadeed and Dhruv Ramb­ha­jan 6-0, 6-3 in their semi­fi­nal, while Primus and Austin Ward stopped Ma­lik Bain and Hold­en Hadeed 6-4, 7-5 in the oth­er.

Welling­ton, the run­ner-up in Bar­ba­dos last week­end, over­came St Vin­cent and the Grenadines Nakay­da Cain 6-4, 6-0, while Roberts, the daugh­ter of for­mer Min­is­ter of Sports Anil Roberts, hum­bled sec­ond-ranked Bar­ba­di­an Ava Warn­er 6-0, 4-6, 10-5.

T&T’s Shiloh Walk­er and Ni­rav Dougdeen en­joyed mixed re­sults in their open­ing match­es when the J30 In­ter­na­tion­al Ten­nis Fed­er­a­tion World Ten­nis Tour Tour­na­ment served off at the Ray­mond Forde Na­tion­al Ten­nis Cen­tre in St Michael, Bar­ba­dos, yes­ter­day.

Walk­er ad­vance to the sec­ond round of the girls draw when she bat­tled past Mic­ah Austin 6-4, 6-4 and will meet Cana­da’s Jolie Mas­tre for a spot in the quar­ter­fi­nals while Dougdeen, the lone T&T play­er in the draw went un­der to Great Britain’s Levi Tay­lor 1-6, 0-6.
