T&T’s Make­da Bain made it a back-to-back sweep of the Un­der-14 Girls Di­vi­sion ti­tles and her third time achiev­ing the feat when the Cen­tral Amer­i­ca and the Caribbean Ten­nis Con­fed­er­a­tion (COTECC)-Trinidad In­ter­na­tion­al Ju­nior (U-14) Ten­nis Tour­na­ment end­ed at the Na­tion­al Rac­quet Cen­tre, Or­ange Grove Road, Tacarigua, Wednes­day.

First­ly, the 12-year-old top-ranked Bain of To­ba­go spanked fel­low T&T play­er and third seed, Cyra Ram­cha­ran, 6-2, 6-2 to se­cure the Girls Sin­gles ti­tle.

This was af­ter Bain de­feat­ed an­oth­er lo­cal play­er, Cher­dine Sylvester, 6-1, 6-2, in their semi­fi­nal on Tues­day, the same out­come as their meet­ing at the same stage last week­end in Bar­ba­dos, while Ram­cha­ran beat Suri­name’s Cy­belle Fer­ri­er 5-7, 6-4, 1-0 (re­tired) in their semi­fi­nal.

And in the girls dou­bles de­cider, Bain and Fer­ri­er fol­lowed up their tri­umph in the Bar­ba­dos leg last week­end at the Ray­mond Forde Na­tion­al Ten­nis Cen­tre in St Michael by over­com­ing Cyra Ram­cha­ran and her sis­ter Suri Ram­cha­ran 7-5, 6-4.

Bain and Fer­ri­er won their semi­fi­nal against an­oth­er sis­ter pair­ing, Karis­sa Mo­hammed and Samiyah Mo­hammed, 6-1, 6-3, while the Ram­cha­ran sis­ters edged past sec­ond-ranked Sofia Gutier­rez of El Sal­vador and Sylvester, 7-6, 6-3.

Last week­end, Bain com­plet­ed a sec­ond straight clean sweep of the Girls Un­der-14 ti­tles in Bar­ba­dos when she de­feat­ed Ram­cha­ran 7-5, 6-0 in the sin­gles fi­nal.

In the semis, Bain dumped Sylvester 6-2, 6-2, and Ram­cha­ran up­staged sec­ond-ranked Cana­di­an Kate­lyn Pa­su­la 7-5, 6-3, and in the dou­bles fi­nal, Bain and Fer­ri­er came from a set down to beat Shreya Rawat of St Kitts/Nevis and Sylvester 4-6, 6-3, 10-5.

This was af­ter Bain and Fer­ri­er won their semi­fi­nal over Bar­ba­di­an Adia Hope and Pa­su­la 6-2, 6-0, while Rawat and Sylvester bat­tled past the Ram­cha­ran sis­ters 6-3, 6-7, 10-3.

Last year, Bain won the dou­bles ti­tle with Cu­ra­cao’s Kezi­ah Flu­o­nia over Fer­ri­er and Cu­ra­cao’s Emil­ia Ted­der.

Brown, Hills beat­en in Un­der-14 Boys semis

Un­seed­ed T&T play­ers Jack Brown and Josi­ah Hill were both beat­en in their re­spec­tive Un­der-14 Boys Sin­gles semi­fi­nals to miss out on an all-lo­cal fi­nal.

Brown was stopped in his bid to reach the fi­nal by sec­ond-ranked Bar­ba­di­an Zane Kir­ton, 2-6, 3-6, while Hills proved no match for the top-ranked Ma­teo Gutier­rez of El Sal­vador, 2-6, 0-6.

In the dou­bles semi­fi­nals, T&T’s Christo­pher Khan paired with Kir­ton to oust lo­cals Oliv­er Har­ra­gin and Ja­cob Jacelon 2-6, 6-7, while top-ranked Gutier­rez and Hills beat lo­cals Brown and Jay­sean Wells 6-1, 7-5. The tour­na­ment will con­clude to­day from 9 am.

Walk­er oust­ed in ITF U-18 Sin­gles round-of-16

T&T’s Shiloh Walk­er was beat­en in the Girls Un­der-18 Sin­gles round-of-16 when the J30 In­ter­na­tion­al Ten­nis Fed­er­a­tion (ITF) World Ten­nis Tour Tour­na­ment con­tin­ued at the Ray­mond Forde Na­tion­al Ten­nis Cen­tre in St Michael, Bar­ba­dos, yes­ter­day.

A 6-4, 6-4 win­ner over Mic­ah Austin on Mon­day in the open­ing round-of-32, Walk­er suf­fered a 1-6, 0-6 loss to Cana­da’s Jolie Mas­tre with a spot in the quar­ter­fi­nals at stake.

And in the dou­bles, Walk­er and Great Britain’s Imo­gen Lines was ex­pect­ed to face Cana­da’s Camille Michel and Sofia Sun­das of Italy in a late match while T&T’s Ni­rav Dougdeen and Bar­ba­di­an Dim­itri Kir­ton were sched­uled to meet Cana­di­ans Kye Mc Da­di and Thomas O’Neil .

On Mon­day, Dougdeen, the lone T&T play­er in the Boys Un­der-18 Sin­gles went un­der to Great Britain’s Levi Tay­lor 1-6, 0-6.
