Bissoon, Dookie lead Powergen past AC Women

Saman­tha Bis­soon smashed 61 in 44 balls as Pow­er­gen Women reg­is­tered a crush­ing 106-run de­feat over AC Women in the open­ing round of the Pre­mier­ship Di­vi­sion in the T&T Women's Crick­et As­so­ci­a­tion's (TTWCA) T20 League on Sun­day.

Play­ing at Pow­er­gen Ground in Syne Vil­lage, Pe­nal, in a short­ened match, the reign­ing 50-Over league cham­pi­on bat­ted first and thanks to Bis­soon's half-cen­tu­ry, Pow­er­gen post­ed an un­reach­able score of 151/5 in 16 overs.

She was sup­port­ed by An­jali Go­ordeen with 21 and Jes­si­ca O'Rosco with 12 not out in the lop­sided match. Shriya Jairam was a bright spot for AC Women, tak­ing two wick­ets for 32 while her team­mates Jan­nah Mo­hammed (1-8) and An­na Lisa Sood­een (1-16), each took one wick­et.

In re­ply, AC Women bat­ted the al­lot­ted 16 overs but was un­pro­duc­tive, pro­duc­ing just 45/6. Mo­hammed was al­so best with the bat for AC Women with 16 not out. Bowler Renelle Dook­ie did the dam­age for Pow­er­gen Woman with 4-12.

At UWI South Field in St Au­gus­tine, na­tion­al team­mates Kir­by­i­na Alexan­der and Lee Ann Kir­by be­came op­po­nents as their re­spec­tive teams, Tech­nocrats and the Uni­ver­si­ty of the West In­dies Women's Crick­et Club (UWI WCC), faced off just one day af­ter they re­turned from St Kitts where the duo helped T&T win the CG Unit­ed Women’s Su­per50 Cup.

Kir­by showed her T&T team­mates no mer­cy as she con­tributed with the ball first then with the bat as UWI WCC won by 10 wick­ets.

Alexan­ders' Tech­nocrats bat­ted first and put a dis­ap­point­ing 40/7 in their 20 overs. She was the lead­ing scor­er with 17 in an in­nings which was dom­i­nat­ed by the bowl­ing of Shali­ni Sama­roo, who took 3-11 and Ka­jol Dal­gir, who ex­celled with fig­ures of 2-1. Kir­by got one wick­et for just nine runs.

UWI WCC's re­sponse took 3.4 overs to reach the win­ning tar­get of 43 with­out loss. Kir­by top­scored with 20 not out and San­damali Dolawat­ta was sec­ond-best with 19 not out.

At Carat Hill Recre­ation Ground in Bar­rack­pore, Hi­bis­cus Ladies de­feat­ed Play­ers Sports Club (SC) by five wick­ets.

Queen Mo­hammed reigned with the bat in the Cham­pi­onship Di­vi­sion's T20 League, scor­ing an un­beat­en half-cen­tu­ry to lead Vic­to­ria Crick­et Club (CC) to a 121-run vic­to­ry over Bren­da Solozano Crick­et Acad­e­my (BSCA) at Ben Lomond Ground, Re­form.

Mo­hammed scored a brisk 49-ball 92 not out when Vic­to­ria CC took the first strike and pro­duced 171/3 in 16 overs. Her team­mate Chelsey Sookhram al­so per­formed well with the bat, scor­ing 48 from 35 balls. Is­hana Dass was best with the ball, claim­ing 2-29.

In re­ply, no BSCA bat­ter reached dou­ble-dig­its as the win­less team was all out for 50 in 13.3 overs. Abi­gail Boodoo (3-10) and Rose Ram­s­ingh (3-5) ran through the BSCA bat­ting line-up, each tak­ing three wick­ets with sup­port from Shan­ta Roopchan, who took 2-5.

It was the third straight win for Vic­to­ria CC, who al­so de­feat­ed North Zone and Moses Lendore Crick­et Acad­e­my (ML­CA).
