Samantha Bissoon smashed 61 in 44 balls as Powergen Women registered a crushing 106-run defeat over AC Women in the opening round of the Premiership Division in the T&T Women's Cricket Association's (TTWCA) T20 League on Sunday.
Playing at Powergen Ground in Syne Village, Penal, in a shortened match, the reigning 50-Over league champion batted first and thanks to Bissoon's half-century, Powergen posted an unreachable score of 151/5 in 16 overs.
She was supported by Anjali Goordeen with 21 and Jessica O'Rosco with 12 not out in the lopsided match. Shriya Jairam was a bright spot for AC Women, taking two wickets for 32 while her teammates Jannah Mohammed (1-8) and Anna Lisa Soodeen (1-16), each took one wicket.
In reply, AC Women batted the allotted 16 overs but was unproductive, producing just 45/6. Mohammed was also best with the bat for AC Women with 16 not out. Bowler Renelle Dookie did the damage for Powergen Woman with 4-12.
At UWI South Field in St Augustine, national teammates Kirbyina Alexander and Lee Ann Kirby became opponents as their respective teams, Technocrats and the University of the West Indies Women's Cricket Club (UWI WCC), faced off just one day after they returned from St Kitts where the duo helped T&T win the CG United Women’s Super50 Cup.
Kirby showed her T&T teammates no mercy as she contributed with the ball first then with the bat as UWI WCC won by 10 wickets.
Alexanders' Technocrats batted first and put a disappointing 40/7 in their 20 overs. She was the leading scorer with 17 in an innings which was dominated by the bowling of Shalini Samaroo, who took 3-11 and Kajol Dalgir, who excelled with figures of 2-1. Kirby got one wicket for just nine runs.
UWI WCC's response took 3.4 overs to reach the winning target of 43 without loss. Kirby topscored with 20 not out and Sandamali Dolawatta was second-best with 19 not out.
At Carat Hill Recreation Ground in Barrackpore, Hibiscus Ladies defeated Players Sports Club (SC) by five wickets.
Queen Mohammed reigned with the bat in the Championship Division's T20 League, scoring an unbeaten half-century to lead Victoria Cricket Club (CC) to a 121-run victory over Brenda Solozano Cricket Academy (BSCA) at Ben Lomond Ground, Reform.
Mohammed scored a brisk 49-ball 92 not out when Victoria CC took the first strike and produced 171/3 in 16 overs. Her teammate Chelsey Sookhram also performed well with the bat, scoring 48 from 35 balls. Ishana Dass was best with the ball, claiming 2-29.
In reply, no BSCA batter reached double-digits as the winless team was all out for 50 in 13.3 overs. Abigail Boodoo (3-10) and Rose Ramsingh (3-5) ran through the BSCA batting line-up, each taking three wickets with support from Shanta Roopchan, who took 2-5.
It was the third straight win for Victoria CC, who also defeated North Zone and Moses Lendore Cricket Academy (MLCA).
