Peter Campbell netted the lone goal to earn defending champion Murphy Clarke a 1-0 win against Cookkin Vibez as the Over-60 Division in the Queen’s Park Cricket Club 8-A-Side Football Tournament continued at the Queen’s Park Oval in St Clair, Port-of-Spain on Friday night.

The win was the fifth straight on the trot and the second consecutive 1-0 win over the same opponents and leaves the unbeaten Murphy Clarke squad to a table-topping 15 points, eight points ahead of Sprint Maintenance Services who whipped Carib 3-1 courtesy of strikes from Peter Waterman, Raymond Sosa, and Kurt Headley which cancelled out Colin Murray's lone effort.

SAS, now with 13 points from six matches, moved to the top of the table in the age 54 to 60 competition with back-to-back wins, a 1-0 triumph against House Hunters, and then a 3-0 triumph over Development Finance. The outstanding Sean Ramdoo netted the lone item in the first match and then returned with a double in the second game, with Gary Griffth claiming the other goal.

House Hunters and Carpenter's Edge are in a fight for second place and despite playing one more game than SAS, sit on 11 points, while Steel Drum is next with 10 points, one more than titleholders All Out Sports Bar.

Q Power Battery also won the two matches played in their division, beating reigning champions Precision Cyber-Technologies 2-1 and Stag 2-0, to improve to 14 points from six matches, three ahead of Ultimate Events, leaving Stag third with seven points.

Ansa Bank, the defending champions in the age 36 to 45 division, continued its march towards retaining its crown with a 2-1 triumph over Domino's to improve their comfortable points lead to 16 from six matches, double that of their closest rivals Seaboard, who do have the luxury of a match in hand.

And in the younger, 35-and-under age group, The Pouch Company registered three comprehensive wins against King Signs (4-0), Karcher (4-2), and Tribe (5-0) to extend its lead at the top of the table. They now move to 21 points, seven more than BMW, while Karcher stayed third with 11.

This year’s tournament is sponsored by platinum and gold sponsors, Carib Beer and BMW Trinidad respectively and features 32 sponsored teams competing across five age groups.

The finals are set to be contested on October 6 with matches continuing on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays until then, beginning at 5.30 pm each day.
