Chadee tops owners in COVID-hit season

Own­er Dave Chadee re­peat­ed 2019's suc­cess as the top own­er in T&T.

Chadee who was un­able to win a Clas­sic or any top class event still man­aged to top the stand­ing as his 35 hors­es won $495,855 in prize mon­ey. Chadee best horse for 2020 was the con­sis­tent Prince of Belle Vue which won two events and amassed $67,909 in earn­ings.

Ruthven Smith was the run­ner-up in this cat­e­go­ry and though his 'Mon­ster' and most like­ly "Horse of The Year" 2020 - Mak­ing Head­lines - scored on five oc­ca­sions and won the pres­ti­gious Stew­ards Cup/Gold Cup dou­ble, his three equine stars could not muster more than $178,903.

PT Rac­ing, the own­ers of the three-year-old chest­nut geld­ing Wise Guy which won the Triple Crown last year and is the high­est mon­ey-spin­ner for the 2020 rac­ing sea­son could not on this oc­ca­sion get his own­ers in­to the win­ner's en­clo­sure.

The Triple Crown win­ner amassed a to­tal of  $177,256.

For­mer cham­pi­on own­er Shiv­am Ma­haraj was fourth on the list with his 17 hors­es earn­ing a to­tal of $174,447 for the COVID-19 af­fect­ed rac­ing sea­son.

Hugh Leong Poi was fifth on the list. Ear­ly Bird won the Stew­ards Cup in 2019 and won the Sian's Gold Clas­sic in 2020. Leong Poi has the best ju­ve­nile in train­ing in 2020 Su­per Bird and this horse can go on to Triple Crown suc­cess this year. He won im­pres­sive­ly on New Year's Day and could be any­thing. His four hors­es earned $168,279.

The Poon Tip Stud Farm was the top mon­ey earn­er for Breed­ers for the 2020 sea­son and their 13 hors­es earned $293,834, thanks to lead­ing mon­ey earn­ers,  Wise Guy and Bel­la Ri­va.

Smith was again beat­en in­to sec­ond in this cat­e­go­ry al­so as his five hors­es earned $228,137 for the sea­son.

Zan­im Meah John fin­ished third in this race with his 20 hors­es which earned $225,154.
