Vaughn Clement scored a pair of goals as defending champion Presentation College of San Fernando kicked off the defence of its Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) Coca-Cola National InterCol title with a comfortable 7-0 win over St Madeleine Secondary in their South zonal quarterfinal at the Mannie Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella, on Thursday.
Third-placed finishers in this year's Premier Division of the SSFL with an inferior goal differential to Fatima College with 35 points, Presentation also got a goal each from Gabriel Collins, Maliq Brathwaite, Micah Brathwaite, and Joshua Bernard to set up a mouth-watering semifinal against bitter rivals Naparima College who clobbered Point Fortin Secondary 18-0 at Lewis Street, San Fernando.
Leading the way for Naparima was Israel Joseph with six goals while Jabari Rodrigues fired in a beaver-trick and national Under-14 captain Adasa Richardson a hat-trick in the lopsided result.
Xarion France added a pair of goals in the win for Naparima with Jerrel Cooper, Sebastian James, and Akiel Vesprey also finding the back of the net.
In the North Zone, Fatima, beaten by Queen's Royal College (QRC) in the 2023 semifinal, and zonal champion St Anthony's College both won easily as well.
At St Anthony's College Ground in Westmoorings, Fatima slammed Mucurapo West Secondary11-1 with reigning SSFL 'Player of the Year' Michael Chaves scoring a hat-trick while Luke Correia and Jedaiah King netted two each.
The quartet of of Liam Gooding, Matthew Barrington, Josiah Fernandes, and Jahaem Bailey chipped in with a goal each for Fatima while Mucurapo West got a consolation item through Simeon Toby.
Up at Fatima College Ground, Mucurapo Road, St Anthony's College spanked Trinity College of Moka 5-1 inspired by a double from (Jean-Marc Thomas and one each from Andell Fraser, Terique Theobold, and Obadiah Eyeadelaroshyia while Trinity Moka got its lone strike through Antonio Cole.
In the East Zone, Arima North Secondary blanked Holy Cross College 3-0 with Tyrel Stapleton finding the net twice and Jahmarley Caleb the other while in the lone Central Zone match, Presentation College of Chaguanas edged Carapichaima West 3-2 thanks to a double from Tyler Somrah and over in Tobago, Mason Hall defeated Bishops High 4-1 behind a hat-trick from Rickelde Williams.
