Alvin Jones of Club Sando…scored the goal in his team's 2-1 loss.

T&T Premier Football League (TTPFL) campaigner Club Sando FC was booted out of the CONCACAF Caribbean Club Shield on Friday night when they were beaten 2-1 by Martiniquan team Golden Lion in Saint Kitts and Nevis.

The southern club enjoyed an unblemished record before Friday's semifinal encounter, which the Martiniquans used to propel them to the final today against Suriname club Robinhood, who thrashed Metropolitan of Puerto Rico 5-0 in the other semifinal contest on the night.

Club Sando, the third-place team in the top-flight T&T football league, needed to win on the night to progress out of the group. But they went down early as Marvin Bellance opened the scoring for the Golden Lion in the 12th minute.

Twelve minutes later, the Martiniquans doubled the score as legendary Martinique forward Kevin Parsemain, who finished as the top scorer in the 2022 edition of the Shield, made it 2-0 in the 24th minute with the half-time interval still a distance away.

Club Sando pulled a goal back right before halftime as Alvin Jones rocketed in a free kick to bring his side to within 2-1.

Golden Lion tightened up in the back in the second half to nail down the win.

Assistant coach Abdallah Phillips said his players gave an excellent performance on Friday night but inexperience saw them fall just short.

"It was a tough loss because we won all our matches before, but kudos to the Martiniquan team, they are a well-coached outfit who have been at this competition before. It was just a bit of complacency that stepped in, as the players found out the magnitude of the team they were up against on the night," Phillips explained.

The Southerners will today face Metropolitan of Puerto Rico in a third and fourth-place play-off before the final match.

In the other semifinal game, Robinhood defeated Metropolitan 5-0. The star of the day for Robinhood was Shaquille Cairo, who notched a hat trick with goals in the 41st, 72nd and 75th minutes to take his tally to eight goals in the tournament thus far and be the leading goalscorer.

Dimitrio Andro added another goal on the stroke of halftime (45th) while Carlos Da Silva sealed the win with a 69th-minute item to complete the rout.

Club Sando entered the match with 16 goals from three and none conceded. They defeated six-time Guadeloupe champions Solidarite Scolaire 4-0 in their opening match and were 3-0 victors on Tuesday in their final round-robin encounter over SV Dakota of Aruba.
