Crazy 8’s secured a win in Round 16 of the National Pool League (NPL) first division, to take their record to eight wins and eight losses.

On Tuesday night in Couva, the Special Brew Sports Bar team hosted Scotchie’s Nubian Kings and were impressive in a 4-1 result. Ryan Rambally got the hosts off to a winning start, getting the better of Mukesh Ramnath, four frames to three. Rambally opened with a combination nine ball (tackle) in the first frame, before losing two in a row, with Ramnath registering a tackle of his own, in the third frame. Rambally hit back with two straight wins to take a 3-2 lead. Ramnath took frame six to join his opponent on the hill but it was Rambally who came out on top with a win in the seventh rack.

David Rahaman made it two-nil for the hosts, defeating Mayton Charles four frames to two. Rahaman won the first two, lost the next two and closed out the win with two more wins.

The Crazy 8’s lone loss came in the doubles, where their captain Rennie Mohammed teamed up with Gavin Ramlochan against Brent John and Anthony John. The John combination proved too strong as the Scotchie’s duo wasted little time, disposing of their opponents in four straight frames, with a combination nine in rack three.

Emelio Smith sealed the victory for Crazy 8’s in game four by beating Decklon Ashton 4-2. Smith raced to a three-frame lead but Ashton bounced back with two wins on the trot. Smith remained calm and collected and that helped him in completing the win.

With the match already in the bag, Valmiki Sookdeo ended the night on a high against visiting captain, Lindsay "Scotchie" Whiskey. Sookdeo, like Smith before him, ran out to a three-nil lead before Whiskey won the fourth frame but there was no way back as Sookdeo won the encounter four frames to one.

With the win, Crazy 8’s moves up one spot into seventh spot on the 14-team table, while the ‘Nubian Kings’ are ninth with six wins and ten losses.

JJ Shooters, who previously occupied seventh spot, swapped places with Crazy 8’s after losing to division leaders Roxbury Shot Callers 2-3 at Roxbury Sports Bar, Cunupia. It was the ‘Shooters’ first loss in four matches, while the ‘Shot Callers’ have now won three in a row. The table-topping Roxbury has a record of fourteen wins and just two losses.

Sicarios Billiards Club hold on to second spot on the table after a 3-2 win over Agora Stingers at Billiards Place in Aranguez. The ‘Stingers’, who were a top-four team just two weeks ago, find themselves in sixth place after four consecutive losses. ‘Sicarios’ are one match win behind Roxbury with thirteen wins and three losses.

Former division leaders, Pocket Predators suffered a surprise loss to Kenny’s at Kenny’s Sports Bar in Chaguanas. Despite the loss, ‘Predators’ remain in third with eleven wins and five losses. Kenny’s have four wins to go with twelve losses and are currently 13th on the table. Predators previously held on to the top spot on the table in round eight.

Lucky Sports continue to roll in their debut season of the NPL and have now won six matches in a row. The Williamsville-based Lucky Sports travelled to Playhouse Sports Bar in Barataria to take on the Panthers and the visitors came away with a close 3-2 win. Lucky Sports are fourth on the standings with ten wins and six losses. Panthers are tenth with six wins and ten losses.

There are four teams in the division with six wins, two of which met at Billiards Place in round 16. Top Shooterz Krew (11th) and Dekko All Stars (10th) locked horns and it was the home team ‘Top Shooterz’, which came out on top 4-1.

Shooting Stars were also in winners’ row defeating United Stars 3-2. Fifth-placed United Stars would have been hoping to get their campaign back on track against the cellar-placed Shooting Stars but just could not get over the line. United Stars now have nine wins and seven losses and Shooting Stars have two wins from sixteen matches played.

With Tuesday (April 1), being declared a public holiday, round 17 of the first division will be contested on Wednesday (April 2).
