Adam Pierre scored the lone goal as Cunupia FC stunned table leaders and previously unbeaten W Connection FC in Group B action of the Next Level Consulting Limited (NLCL) Under-19 Community Cup continued on Thursday.
Playing at the Balmain Recreation Ground, Couva, Pierre got the decisive item in the 46th minute to earn Cunupia FC only their second win in eight matches, but good enough to move them up to the third and final qualification position for the playoffs.
Despite the loss, W Connection remained top of the six-club table with 19 points from eight matches, and two left to play while Made In La Brea (15 points) narrowed the gap at the top to four points after a 3-0 triumph over Point Fortin Youth Football Academy (FA) at Brighton Recreation Ground.
Fourth-placed Gasparillo Youths also stayed in contention for a top-three finish after a tense 3-2 defeat of Moruga FC at Lumsden Recreation Ground.
In Group A, defending champions Soccer Made Simple returned to winning ways vi a 7-1 defeat of T&T Maestros at Bon Air Recreation Ground, Arouca to move to 20 points, five clear of World Class Soccer Clinic, and Malabar Young Stars who battled to a 1-1 draw at Prime Minister Ground, Five Rivers in Arouca, while Trendsetter Hawks picked up a first win easing past Santa Cruz United 3-1 at Eddie Hart Ground, Tunapuna.
Over in Tobago, at the Black Rock Recreation Ground, Ball Blasters crushed Roxborough Lakers for their third in four matches to lead the table while Georgia slipped past title-holders Eagles 1-0 to leave both teams second on the four-team table with six points each, three ahead of Lakers. The top two teams in Tobago will qualify to the national quarterfinals.
