Cunupia FC stuns W Connection in Next Level U-19 tourney

Adam Pierre scored the lone goal as Cunu­pia FC stunned ta­ble lead­ers and pre­vi­ous­ly un­beat­en W Con­nec­tion FC in Group B ac­tion of the Next Lev­el Con­sult­ing Lim­it­ed (NL­CL) Un­der-19 Com­mu­ni­ty Cup con­tin­ued on Thurs­day.

Play­ing at the Bal­main Recre­ation Ground, Cou­va, Pierre got the de­ci­sive item in the 46th minute to earn Cunu­pia FC on­ly their sec­ond win in eight match­es, but good enough to move them up to the third and fi­nal qual­i­fi­ca­tion po­si­tion for the play­offs.

De­spite the loss, W Con­nec­tion re­mained top of the six-club ta­ble with 19 points from eight match­es, and two left to play while Made In La Brea (15 points) nar­rowed the gap at the top to four points af­ter a 3-0 tri­umph over Point Fortin Youth Foot­ball Acad­e­my (FA) at Brighton Recre­ation Ground.

Fourth-placed Gas­par­il­lo Youths al­so stayed in con­tention for a top-three fin­ish af­ter a tense 3-2 de­feat of Moru­ga FC at Lums­den Recre­ation Ground.

In Group A, de­fend­ing cham­pi­ons Soc­cer Made Sim­ple re­turned to win­ning ways vi a 7-1 de­feat of T&T Mae­stros at Bon Air Recre­ation Ground, Arou­ca to move to 20 points, five clear of World Class Soc­cer Clin­ic, and Mal­abar Young Stars who bat­tled to a 1-1 draw at Prime Min­is­ter Ground, Five Rivers in Arou­ca, while Trend­set­ter Hawks picked up a first win eas­ing past San­ta Cruz Unit­ed 3-1 at Ed­die Hart Ground, Tu­na­puna.

Over in To­ba­go, at the Black Rock Recre­ation Ground, Ball Blasters crushed Rox­bor­ough Lak­ers for their third in four match­es to lead the ta­ble while Geor­gia slipped past ti­tle-hold­ers Ea­gles 1-0 to leave both teams sec­ond on the four-team ta­ble with six points each, three ahead of Lak­ers. The top two teams in To­ba­go will qual­i­fy to the na­tion­al quar­ter­fi­nals.
