President of Cricket West Indies (CWI), Dr Kishore Shallow has set the record straight as far as undertaking governance reform of regional cricket.
Recently, the directors from the Barbados Cricket Association (BCA) and Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) failed to attend a board meeting where the regional cricket body was due to continue discussing and implementing recommendations from the Wehby Report on the governance of West Indies cricket.
Nichols, who is the secretary of the BCA said in a regional cricket radio programme discussing the reform proposals said: “None of these things speak to the fundamental assumption in the Wehby Report.”
He then asked the president of question: “What are the four assumptions in the Wehby Report, do we know?”
Whilst Nichols was fiery, Dr Shallow kept his composure responding: “Let me say again that this Wehby Report and the recommendations, we are going to implement in an incremental way. So have already implemented a few resolutions.
“Gregory was part of that meeting where we approved some of those recommendations. Now, this is a second phase where we are approving a further four resolutions and then we plan to introduce more.”
CWI was unable to meet a quorum for their December 6 meeting on governance reform, owing to the absences of GCB and BCA representatives.
A CWI statement said the GCB and BCA “failed to attend having opted not to appoint two representatives as required by the company’s articles of association”.
The meeting was called to vote on implementing governance reforms proposed by the Wehby Report, which aims to modernise CWI’s governance framework.
CWI said notice for this meeting was issued on November 13 in accordance with its articles of association.
