T&T Defender Aubrey David and midfielder Ryan Telfer have been chosen on a CONCACAF Nations League best eleven after two rounds of matches.

They were selected based on their performances in the Soca Warriors two matches played against Curacao and El Salvador, Concacaf said.

T&T promoted to the CONCACAF Nations League ‘A’ division after playing unbeaten in the ‘B’ League between last year and this year, got the best start they could have asked for when they defeated Curacao 1-0 at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Mucurapo 1-0, courtesy of a Nathaniel ‘Natty’ James 82nd-minute strike on September 7.

Three days later, the Soca Warriors pulled off a come-from-behind 3-2 victory over El Salvador at the Estadio Jorge Gonzalez in San Salvador with Telfer equalizing on the home team’s opening goal in the 17 minute.

Telfer, the Miami FC winger in the USL Championship in the United States was also instrumental in the T&T’s lone goal against Curacao, as it was his headed down pass that led to James scoring in the 82nd minute.

David, the T&T captain, on the other hand, kept a steady defence for the Soca Warriors in both matches. Responding to David, the Concacaf said: “ Like he has always been his entire career, David was effective at both ends. He took three shots in attack, while he made five steals and four clearances to help the Soca Warriors become the only team to win both games in the window.”

Guided by the support of Telfer and David, the T&T team is now two matches away from a place in the quarterfinal of the Nations League with matches against Guatemala on October 13 and Curacao on October 17.

The top two finishers in each group will advance to the 2023-24 Concacaf Nations League Quarterfinals, where they will join the top four seeded teams- the United States, Mexico, Canada, and Costa Rica.

The winners of the four quarterfinal match-ups will, not only advance to the Concacaf Nations League finals in March, but they will also qualify for the 2024 Copa America, while the defeated teams from the quarters will meet in a pair of play-off matches to determine the final two spots in the 2024 Copa America.
