Following the month-long break for the Carnival season, Defence Force Elites will resume their quest towards securing the title in the 2024/2025 T&T Premier Football League (TTPFL) Tier I with a clash against rivals Miscellaneous Police FC Friday night.
The battle between the Defence Force, who leads the table with a perfect 33 points after 11 wins in as many matches, and third-placed Police FC with 21 points kicks off at 8 pm at the Phase II Recreation Ground, La Horquetta.
When both teams clashed on the opening day of the season back on December 6, last year, Defence Force under the supervision of first-year coach Densill Theobald got goals from new signing Kevin Molino and Isaiah Leacock to defeat Police 2-1 with Kareem "Scooby" Freitas scoring a last minute consolation for the Lawmen.
Since that victory, both Molino and Leacock have continued their impressive form in front of goal with ten and 11 strikes, respectively to their names to lead the scoring charts as well.
Prior to the break, Defence Force edged Prison Service FC 1-0 to maintain their perfect start to the season and having had the mid-season mini break will no doubt be eager to get back to winning ways.
It is also left to be seen if former Defence Force talisman and T&T striker Reon Moore will make his debut for the "Teteron Men" in this year's competition against the long-time rivals since he cut short his two-year with Canadian Premier League club Pacific FC after just one season last December.
Moore who has been in training with Theobald's men since late January is said to be suffering from the flu and will be a game-time decision.
Meanwhile, the "Lawmen" whipped Point Fortin Civic 4-1 in their last outing and they too will be hopeful of kicking off the second half of the season on a winning note while ending their long-time bitter-rivals winning streak.
Two hours earlier at La Horquetta, sixth-placed Caledonia AIA (19 points) boosted by the acquisition of Brazilian duo Bruno Rodrigues Da Silva and Bruno Rodrigues Soares Do Santos from Sao Paulo, come up against Terminix La Horquetta Rangers, eighth on the table with ten points.
Tomorrow (Saturday, March 15), a double-header is also carded for the Arima Municipal Stadium with Club Sando FC facing Prison Service FC from 5 pm followed by MIC Central FC Reboot and San Juan Jabloteh.
Then on Sunday at the Ken Cooke Ground, Police Barracks, Long Circular Road, St James, 1976 FC Phoenix faces FC Eagles from 5 pm while defending champions, Athletic Club Port-of-Spain (AC PoS) comes up against Point Fortin Civic.
