On the second consecutive day, Sidel Diaz shone brightly for the Steelpan Players as they scored a seven-wicket win over the Blue Devils when the Dream XI T10 Blast Cricket Tournament continued at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Tarouba, San Fernando, on Tuesday.
A day after he scored 63 and followed it up with a hat-trick wickets in their 11-run win over Soca Kings on Monday, Diaz followed up that performance with 49 runs that helped his team successfully overhaul the Blue Devils’ total of 111 for 2.
In a match reduced to nine overs because of rain, Kamil Pooran slammed 73 not out laced with six fours and six sixes in his 35-ball knock.
He was assisted by Anderson Mahase, who belted 27 from 13 balls as the Blue Devils reached 111 for 2 from their nine overs.
In response, Steelpan Players got an opening stand of 36 between Diaz and wicketkeeper Daniel Williams before the latter was stumped by Adrian Ali for 15 off the bowling of Ricky Jaipaul as the Marchin Patriots combination took the first wicket.
Jyd Goolie then joined Diaz and scored 28 not out from 16 balls with two sixes.
Diaz hit six sixes and two fours before he was bowled for 49.
Goolie and Akiel Cooper carried the Steelpan Players over the line as they reached 116 for 3 in eight and a half overs.
Steelpan Players got to ten points and are two points clear at the top of the standings ahead of Soca Kings, who beat Cocrico Cavaliers on eight points.
