Maria Gooding of Team Breakaway and Christopher Govia of Club NR were the top riders in the Elite Women’s and Men’s divisions when the T&T Cycling Federation’s Mountain Bike Challenge took place at the Samaan Park in Chaguaramas on the weekend.
Gooding, a member of the dangerous Gooding clang which dominated in the sport of triathlon, showed that she could not be ruled out, as she completed the required three-lap event in a time of 49:10. She got the better of Nisha Adolphus who stormed home after an hour, 03 minutes and 20 seconds.
Govia, among the men, had four laps to prove himself and he did. But they were all against the members of his own NR club whom he knew all too well. But in the end, he prevailed after the allotted four laps, crossing the finish line in a time of 56:45 with Videsh Bheecham taking the silver medal in 1:16.02, while Faiyyaz Mohammed was third, posting a time of 1:17.38.
In the Junior Male, Noah Teixeira of Club NR snatched the win in a two-man race when he stopped the clock at 1:03.20, while Idris Motilal followed in the second position in a time of 1:29.42.
Earlier, Liam D’Abadie won the Juvenile Men category ahead of Tyriq Springer in 43:31. Springer who clocked 48:17 in his four laps sealed the silver medal with Blaine Williams taking the bronze medal (54:43).
