Makay­la Grant net­ted 30 goals from 42 at­tempts to guide Spar­toms to a com­fort­able 54-13 win over Po­lice Net­ball Youth Club (PNYC) in the A1 Di­vi­sion of the Lystra Lewis Port-of-Spain Net­ball League at the Wood­brook Youth Cen­tre, last Sat­ur­day.

The goal-shoot­er, who cap­tained T&T to its first Caribbean Net­ball As­so­ci­a­tion Jean Pierre Youth Net­ball Cham­pi­onship ti­tle, was ably sup­port­ed by ju­nior na­tion­al team­mate and mid­dle-dis­tance run­ner Shi­an Lewis (7/11) and Za­kiya McKen­na (17/31) who shared the goal-at­tack bib in the lop­sided match.

For PNYC, Cheryse James (4/5), Tan­isha Dann (7/9), Zion Homer (1/2) and Kaliyah Coop­er (1/2) were the shoot­ers.

Ear­li­er the match-up in the A2 Di­vi­sion clash was in­tense but it was Laven­tille Unit­ed edg­ing Po­lice Net­ball Sec­tion, 34-33.

Goal-at­tack Ger­maine Charles led the shoot­ing with 16 goals from 26 tries fol­lowed close be­hind by goal-shoot­er Ayan­na Pe­ters with 15 of 38. They re­placed open­ing pair Cher­ryell McIn­tosh (2/9) and Re­nee Mush­ing­ton (8/15), re­spec­tive­ly, in a match which had sev­er­al lead changes.

Po­lice held the ad­van­tage, 9-5 at the end of the first quar­ter but Laven­tille fought back in the sec­ond pe­ri­od to edge ahead, 15-14 at half­time.

In the third ses­sion, the Po­lice unit didn’t stay down for long and pulled ahead 25-21, go­ing in­to the fourth quar­ter. How­ev­er, they were outscored 13-8 in the fi­nal pe­ri­od, to fall to the one-goal de­feat.

For Po­lice Net­ball Sec­tion, Gur­shi­er Grant was per­fect, hit­ting all five at­tempts be­fore be­ing re­placed by Tami­ka John, who led the scor­ing with 16 off 30.

Patrice Thomas was the open­ing goal-at­tack and net­ted five in ten. She was re­placed by Ade­o­la Charles, who poured in sev­en off 13 tries in a los­ing ef­fort.
