Captain Ty Warwick top-scored for Holy Name Convent in their final league match to enjoy another outstanding year in the North Zone of the T&T Secondary Schools Basketball League, winning the Open Girls’ title.
Five schools registered teams to compete in the round-robin competition, including Mucurapo East Secondary, Mucurapo West, South East Port-of-Spain, Woodbrook Secondary and the eventual winner, Holy Name.
On Friday at Fatima College ground in Port-of-Spain, Holy Name played its last league encounter against Mucurapo East, and came out on top 18-6.
Warwick led Holy Name with 11 points on the evening to secure the zonal title and be crowned the North Zone Open girls’ champion.
In the U-15 girls category, the North Zone had three registered teams Mucurapo East, Mucurapo West and South East Port-of-Spain.
The tournament structure saw each team play the each other twice to determine the league champion.
The league came down to a point differential as both Mucurapo East and South East Port-of-Spain split their encounters one game apiece and it was the latter being crowned the girls’ U-15 North Zone champion.
Both teams now await the winners from South Central Zone and Tobago to face off in the National Secondary Schools Basketball Championships carded for later this month.
