Bar­ba­dos’ trio of In­ter­na­tion­al Mas­ter Or­lan­do Hus­bands, Women’s Can­di­date Mas­ter Chanon Reifer-Belle and Women’s Fide Mas­ter Han­nah Wil­son oc­cu­py the top spots af­ter sev­en rounds in the Sub­zone 2.3.3 Open and Women’s Chess Cham­pi­onships 2025 be­ing played at the Cas­ca­dia Ho­tel in St Ann's, Port-of-Spain on Wednes­day.

With just two rounds re­main­ing, Hus­bands, the top seed at 2291, is in prime po­si­tion to win the Open di­vi­sion with 6.5 points out of a pos­si­ble sev­en.

His on­ly blem­ish came in the third round when he drew with Ja­maica’s Fide Mas­ter Ra­heem Glaves.

Hus­bands took over the sole lead by de­feat­ing T&T’s In­ter­na­tion­al Mas­ter Vish­nu Singh in round six with the white pieces and fol­lowed up with a vic­to­ry over Fide Mas­ter Kevin Cu­pid in the fol­low­ing round with the black pieces.

Singh is cur­rent­ly in sec­ond po­si­tion on 5.5 points on the tiebreak, ahead of coun­try­man Kevin Cu­pid, Ja­maica’s Nathaniel Hope and Glaves, who are all tied on points.

In the Women’s di­vi­sion, Reifer-Belle de­feat­ed fel­low Bar­ba­di­an Wil­son in a top of the ta­ble clash in round six to take over the top spot.

Reifer-Belle then took down the num­ber one ranked play­er, T&T’s Women’s Can­di­date Mas­ter Ysvett Her­moso Ro­driguez in the sev­enth round to move to six points.

Mean­while, Wil­son re­cov­ered from her loss to de­feat Women’s Can­di­date Mas­ter Zara La Fleur in the sev­enth round and is cur­rent­ly in sec­ond po­si­tion on six points, trail­ing Reifer-Belle on the tiebreak.

Her­moso Ro­driguez is cur­rent­ly in third po­si­tion on five points, ahead of Saman­tha Dol­ly, who al­so has five points.
