Amir Jangoo scored his maiden List A century and the defending champions Trinidad & Tobago Red Force continued their impressive start in the Regional Super50 with a 45-run win over the Guyana Harpy Eagles via the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method at the Queen's Park Oval in St Clair, Port-of-Spain Saturday.
Jangoo topscored with 114, while Jyd Goolie and Kjorn Ottley cracked half-centuries in the Red Force’s formidable 288 for three from 45 overs in the rain-affected contest.
The Harpy Eagles never really threatened their target and when rain ended the match in the 39th over, they were 201 for seven.
After winning the toss and sending the Red Force in to bat, the Harpy Eagles reaped success early on when Nial Smith bowled Tion Webster for six.
There was very little else for the Harpy Eagles to shout about thereafter, as Jangoo and Kjorn Ottley joined forces in a 149-run partnership.
And even when Keemo Paul dismissed Ottley for 66 from 86 balls to leave the score 158 for two in the 30th over, Goolie, who cracked an unbeaten 68 from 51 balls, added a further 66 runs with Jangoo as the Red Force kept a stranglehold on proceedings.
By the time Jangoo lost his wicket after striking 10 fours and two sixes, to make the score 224 for three, the damage had already been done, with Goolie and Jason Mohammed sharing an unbroken partnership of 64 runs to end the innings.
The Harpy Eagles found themselves on the backfoot early on when fast bowler Anderson Phillips struck twice in successive overs to remove Matthew Nandu for 12 and Tagenarine Chanderpaul for 16, to restrict them to 30 for two.
Things only got worse for the Harpy Eagles as spinner Khary Pierre bowled Tevin Imlach for 12 and Bryan Charles dismissed Kevlon Anderson and Keemo Paul, to leave them tottering on 119 for five in the 26th over.
Kemol Savory stroked an unbeaten 69 from 92 balls, with four fours and one six, but it was too late for the Harpy Eagles to make a miraculous comeback.
