Allrounder Mikaela Jodhan and off-spinner Leandra Ramdeen have received their first call-up to the senior national women's cricket team for the Cricket West Indies (CWI) Women's Championships in Guyana from March 14 - April 4.
The selection of the two Under-21 players was among a number of changes to the team made by the T&T Women's Cricket Association (TTWCA), yesterday, hoping to capture both the Super50 and Twenty20 (T20) titles.
One such change is the naming of Reniece Boyce as the new vice-captain. She replaces Anisa Mohammed and will work with regular captain Merissa Aguilleira while Samantha Bissoon and Caneisha Isaac are making their return to the team.
The rest of the unit includes some familiar faces in Mohammed, Britney Cooper, Lee Ann Kirby, Felicia Walters, Stacy Ann King, Shania Abdool, Rachel Vincent and Karishma Ramharack.
Although new to the line-up, Jodhan and Ramdeen have gained some experience from competing on the junior level as well as Boyce. The trio was part of the national youth team that won the Regional U-19 cricket title back in 2016 and have been competing consistently well in the domestic competition.
The local team will face off against the best women's players in the region, seeking to recapture the 50-Over crown from arch-rival Barbados, who last year beat T&T by four wickets in the third and final round at Chedwin Park in Jamaica to reign as champion after the round-robin competition.
Earlier in the tournament in the T20 phase, Jamaica beat Barbados by four runs in to capture the T20 Blaze at Sabina Park. Then both teams finished with four wins and a loss but Jamaica took the title by the head-to-head tie-breaker rule.
