Jules fires Big Yard to Bellissima Events kayo crown

Jovon Jules was the lone play­er on tar­get as Big Yard FC edged league win­ners Young Li­ons 1-0 on penal­ty kicks af­ter a goal­less draw in the knock­out fi­nal of the nine-team Five-A-Side Bas­ket­ball Court Foot­ball League host­ed by Bel­lis­si­ma Events on Sat­ur­day night.

In the semi­fi­nals con­test­ed one night ear­li­er, Young Li­ons had moved to with­in a win of sweep­ing the ti­tles in the sec­ond edi­tion of the com­pe­ti­tion af­ter they eked out a 1-0 win over Point Cumana FC cour­tesy of an own goal at the L’Anse Mi­tan Recre­ation Ground, Care­nage while Big Yard was on a semi­fi­nal bye.

In the lone quar­ter­fi­nal con­test­ed on Fri­day, Big Yard led by a dou­ble from Kadeem Hutchin­son, and the oth­er by Jovon Jules caged Crazy Mon­keys 3-1 while Scor­pi­on FC who pulled off a stun­ning 1-0 up­set of Smith Hill FC in the round-of-16 re­ceived a quar­ter­fi­nal round bye.

Last month, Young Li­ons who won the open­ing-day tour­na­ment as well cap­tured the $5,000 league ti­tle af­ter they played to a 0-0 draw with ri­vals Smith Hill FC to fin­ish their cam­paign with 17 points, one ahead of Scrape Up, who took home $3,000 as the run­ners-up while Crazy Mon­keys was a 1-0 win­ner over Point Cumana in their fi­nal match on Fri­day se­cured the third spot and $1,000.

Speak­ing at the con­clu­sion of the com­pe­ti­tion Sh­eryll De Bique, founder of the Bel­lis­si­ma Or­gan­is­ing Com­mit­tee which al­so com­pris­es Ak­il Mark, said the com­pe­ti­tion which had its first stag­ing last year was born out of the need to fos­ter a pos­i­tive av­enue for the young­sters in the com­mu­ni­ty and at the end of this year’s tour­na­ment they can feel proud of the work done, but much more work still needs to be done.

De Bique added, “Both my­self and Mark will like to thank the com­mu­ni­ty as well as those of Seav­iew Gar­dens for show­ing the love and sup­port as along our jour­ney there were a lot of hid­den bat­tles but we both stand to­geth­er and made it through.”
