T&T's Deon Lendore took second place in the men's 400 metres at the American Track League meeting in Arkansas in the United States on Sunday. The 2016 and 2018 World Indoors bronze medallist clocked 46.08 seconds to win Heat Two and edged out Christopher Taylor of Jamaica (46.09), who was third overall.
Winning the one-lap time trial event was Michael Cherry. The American won Heat One with a personal best time of 45.24.
In the women's version of the race which also was determined over two heats by time trial, T&T's Sparkle McKnight crossed third with 54.33 in the heat two and placed seventh overall. USA's Shamier Little ran a personal best of 51.33 to win Heat One while Shakima Wimbley also of the US placed second after winning Heat Two in 52.12. Jamaica’s Shian Salmon also ran a personal best of 52.85 for second in Heat One, placing third overall.
Another T&T athlete, Ruebin Walters, also featured at the meet and he was third in 7.68 in the men's 60m hurdles event behind winner Jamaican Omar McLeod, the 2016 Olympic champion, with 7.53, withstanding the challenge of USA's Michael Dickson, who finished in 7.58.
Unfortunately, none of T&T's leading athletes on the Collegiate circuit finished among the top three places in any of their events at their respective meets over the weekend.
Sprinter Dwight St Hillaire of the University of Kentucky (UK) and field Specialist Cherisse Murray of the University of Alabama (UA) just missed out on podium-finishes at the South Carolina Invitational in Columbia.
The UK senior placed fourth in the men's 200m with a 20.88-clocking while over on the field, Murray's best attempt of 15.96 put the Crimson Tide's senior in fourth spot in the women's shot put.
St Hillaire also raced in the men's 4x400m relay and his UK team placed fourth as well with 3:07.99 in the final.
Texas A&M's multisport athlete Tyra Gittens, who has tasted several success since the start of the indoor season, featured at the Charlie Thomas Invitational competing in two events.
The senior crossed fourth in the women's hurdles in 8.28 in the preliminary heats, qualifying her for the final but she did not start.
Gittens, who bettered her own national pentathlon record with 4,612, competed in the women's shot put and her best throw, measured 12.60m to place eighth.
