Lendore crosses 2nd in 400m sprint

T&T's De­on Lendore took sec­ond place in the men's 400 me­tres at the Amer­i­can Track League meet­ing in Arkansas in the Unit­ed States on Sun­day. The 2016 and 2018 World In­doors bronze medal­list clocked 46.08 sec­onds to win Heat Two and edged out Christo­pher Tay­lor of Ja­maica (46.09), who was third over­all.

Win­ning the one-lap time tri­al event was Michael Cher­ry. The Amer­i­can won Heat One with a per­son­al best time of 45.24.

In the women's ver­sion of the race which al­so was de­ter­mined over two heats by time tri­al, T&T's Sparkle McK­night crossed third with 54.33 in the heat two and placed sev­enth over­all. USA's Shami­er Lit­tle ran a per­son­al best of 51.33 to win Heat One while Shaki­ma Wim­b­ley al­so of the US placed sec­ond af­ter win­ning Heat Two in 52.12. Ja­maica’s Shi­an Salmon al­so ran a per­son­al best of 52.85 for sec­ond in Heat One, plac­ing third over­all.

An­oth­er T&T ath­lete, Rue­bin Wal­ters, al­so fea­tured at the meet and he was third in 7.68 in the men's 60m hur­dles event be­hind win­ner Ja­maican Omar McLeod, the 2016 Olympic cham­pi­on, with 7.53, with­stand­ing the chal­lenge of USA's Michael Dick­son, who fin­ished in 7.58.

Un­for­tu­nate­ly, none of T&T's lead­ing ath­letes on the Col­le­giate cir­cuit fin­ished among the top three places in any of their events at their re­spec­tive meets over the week­end.

Sprint­er Dwight St Hillaire of the Uni­ver­si­ty of Ken­tucky (UK) and field Spe­cial­ist Cherisse Mur­ray of the Uni­ver­si­ty of Al­aba­ma (UA) just missed out on podi­um-fin­ish­es at the South Car­oli­na In­vi­ta­tion­al in Co­lum­bia.

The UK se­nior placed fourth in the men's 200m with a 20.88-clock­ing while over on the field, Mur­ray's best at­tempt of 15.96 put the Crim­son Tide's se­nior in fourth spot in the women's shot put.

St Hillaire al­so raced in the men's 4x400m re­lay and his UK team placed fourth as well with 3:07.99 in the fi­nal.

Texas A&M's mul­ti­sport ath­lete Tyra Git­tens, who has tast­ed sev­er­al suc­cess since the start of the in­door sea­son, fea­tured at the Char­lie Thomas In­vi­ta­tion­al com­pet­ing in two events.

The se­nior crossed fourth in the women's hur­dles in 8.28 in the pre­lim­i­nary heats, qual­i­fy­ing her for the fi­nal but she did not start.

Git­tens, who bet­tered her own na­tion­al pen­tathlon record with 4,612, com­pet­ed in the women's shot put and her best throw, mea­sured 12.60m to place eighth.
