Ben Martin was the toast of the 2025 T&T Golf Open at the St Andrews Course in Moka, Maraval after he won the Professional Division for a third time.
Martin first won the title in 2021, scored 71 on the fourth and final day, Sunday (March , to end on 284. He held off another T&T golfer Chris Richards Sr by four strokes (290).
Martin, who last won the title in 2022, took the lead on the first day, Thursday, hitting 74 with Richards Sr and Jamaican Justin Borrowes tied for second on 75.
Richards Sr took the lead after two rounds hitting 69, three under par. Martin returned to the top after day three with an impressive 68 (four under par) and held on, on the final day to take the crown.
Jamaican Wesley Brown copped third place with 302 ahead of his countrymen Borrowes (303), Alford Robinson (316) and Orville Christie (317). American Nick Jones (318), another Jamaican Sebert Walker Jr (319), USA’s Zachary Ramey (327) and Hunter Summy (332) followed behind along with T&T’s Anthony Gill (336) and Nick Burk of the USA (339).
Chris Richards Jr won the Championship honours (289) with three under par (69) ahead of American Nikita Gubenko (300) and Puerto Rico’s Amalio Vega (305).
Ethan Collier upstaged his older rivals to secure the First Fliight with 321. The 14-year-old Collier pulled away from the first and second-day leader Dinesh Jackree (326).
Another 14-year-old Ben Laughlin was third (330). Collier is the son of the late Rebecca Collier, a former national junior golfer.
West Indies cricket captain Darren Sammy had a strong showing on the last day to finish fourth (344).
Nandlal Ramlakhan dominated the Second Flight (353 to finish ahead of Jamaican Owen McPherson 359 and Kisson Gannes (360).
Clint Alfred (307) rallied to win the Seniors Division ahead of Neil Lutchmansingh (311) and Zeke Percival (323) of St Kitts and Nevis. Lutchamansingh was in front going into the fourth day.
Some 200 golfers from 16 countries participated in the 117th edition of the T&T Golf Open. The tournament is the longest-running competition in the Americas region.
After no championships in 2023 and 2024, this year’s edition was held in both Trinidad and Tobago for the first time.
Ladies also made their debut with Jamaican Jodi Munn-Borrow copping the inaugural women’s crown.
The ladies played at the Plantations Golf Course at the Magdalena Beach and Golf Resort in Lowlands, Tobago from March 14-16.
