BEN­GALU­RU – De­spite a de­cent out­ing with the bat, Hay­ley Matthews’ Mum­bai In­di­ans Women were com­plete­ly out­played by the Del­hi Cap­i­tals Women, falling to a nine-wick­et de­feat in the Women’s Pre­mier League (WPL) in In­dia on Fri­day.

Matthews scored 22 from 25 balls and was the joint top­scor­er with cap­tain Har­man­preet Kaur, as the Mum­bai In­di­ans were lim­it­ed to a be­low par 123 for nine from their 20 overs at the M Chin­naswamy Sta­di­um af­ter be­ing sent in to bat.

Min­nu Mani and Jess Jon­nassen both snared three wick­ets to trig­ger a col­lapse that saw the Mum­bai In­di­ans lose their last eight wick­ets for 50 runs.

Cap­i­tals’ cap­tain Meg Lan­ning then hit an un­beat­en 60 from 49 balls and Shafali Ver­ma pum­melled 43 from 28 balls to steer their team to 124 for one off 14.3 overs.

The pair added 85 runs for the first wick­et and when Ver­ma was dis­missed, Jemimah Ro­drigues scored 15 not out to en­sure there would be no fur­ther loss­es.
