Police captured the Men’s Open and Masters (Over-45) crowns while Magnolias took top honours among the Women’s Open when T&T Hockey Board Return To Play Indoor Hockey Festival flicked off at the Woodbrook Youth Facility, Hamilton-Holder Street, Woodbrook last weekend.
Led by the goalscoring prowess of national players, Jordan Reynos who scored 11 goals and captain Akim Toussaint with five, Police swept past Notre Dame 6-0 and Paragon 5-1 on Saturday before returning 24 hours later to register wins over Queen’s Park Cricket Club (5-2), Fatima (3-0) and Defence Force (3-1) to end with a perfect record of 5-0 and a maximum of 15 points.
The trio of Defence Force, Paragon and Queen’s Park all ended with 3-2 records, but due to their better goal-difference of plus-three, the Parkites ended second ahead of Paragon (zero) and the Army/Coast-Guard combination (-1).
In the four-team Women’s Open Round-Robin series, national forward Brianna Govia scored a combined five goals in three matches while fellow national players Samantha Olton, Savannah De Freitas, her sister Shaniah De Freitas and Mia Otero all scored two each to lead Magnolias to a 3-0 record and a maximum nine points.
This after Magnolias brushed aside Notre Dame 8-0 and recorded similar 4-1 triumphs over Police and Paragon.
Paragon won their other two matches to finish second with six points, followed by Police with three while the Dames ended without a point.
And in the Masters (Over-45), competition Police also swept away its rivals for a perfect 3-0 record and nine points led by six goals from former national player Nicholas Wren and three each from Neil Lashley and Roger Daniel, both former national standouts as well.
The tournament continues next weekend with the Under-19 and Mixed Division competitions.
