LUCKNOW -West Indies batting star Nicholas Pooran and his Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) crashed out of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 playoffs race after a six-wicket defeat to Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the 61st match of the competition on Monday.
Despite a fiery start from Mitchell Marsh, who hit 65 and Aiden Markram 61, along with Pooran’s brisk 45 off 22 balls, LSG could only manage to put up 205 for seven in their allotted 20 overs.
LSG roared to 115 in just 10.3 overs, thanks to Marsh and Markram’s aggressive partnership.
However, SRH’s bowlers staged a strong comeback, with Eshan Malinga bagging 2-28, leading the charge. Pooran, who fell in the final over, hit six fours and a six in his 47-minute knock.
Despite being out of playoff contention, SRH showcased their batting might as Abhishek Sharma demolished the LSG attack, smashing six sixes in a 20-ball knock of 59, setting the tone for the chase.
South African Heinrich Klaasen with a brisk 47, along with Ishan Kishan, and Kamindu Mendis all contributed with quick 30s, ensuring a comfortable victory for SRH, who got to 206 for four in 18.2 overs.
With this loss, LSG bow out of the tournament with five wins and seven loses from their 12 games, leaving Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals to battle for the final playoff spot.
