Alicia Knights is a T&T-born vocalist, writer and performer with roots in poetry, acting and live music.
Her artistry is grounded in storytelling, spiritual grit and sonic freedom shaped by years of lived experience and creative exploration.
A. Knight to Remember marks her solo debut on home soil: a return to self, stage, and sound.
The show takes place on June 22 at Kafe Blue and will feature a blend of musical genres ranging from R&B, gospel, soul, funk, and jazz. It will explore themes of healing, identity, womanhood, and creative rebirth.
Knights has lived and worked in Brooklyn for over 25 years. During her career she auditioned for the Broadway production of The Color Purple in 2010.
“I made it through several callbacks and got very close to being cast but I stepped away when my mother’s cancer returned aggressively and I needed to be fully present for her.”
Another powerful moment came just three months after her mother passed in September 2010. Knights produced and performed a one-woman show at the Iguana jazz lounge in NYC.
“I honestly don’t know where the courage came from, but the intimacy of that space brought out a level of vulnerability I’d never tapped into before. It was both healing and transformative.”
The importance of family and strengthening bonds continues now that she has come back to settle in T&T.
“This show wouldn’t exist without the support of my family. Their village embraced my yearning to perform again and took action in making the right connections. Coming back to Trinidad was a big, bold move and my family’s encouragement gave me the strength to follow through. Whether it’s helping with my son, picking an outfit, or just showing up—I feel the love.”
Her inspirations come from legends such as Prince, Rachelle Ferrell, Jill Scott, Ella Fitzgerald and Leontyne Price who she says, “embody truth when they perform.”
Knights wants her audience to feel seen, to walk away remembering a part of themselves they may have forgotten or buried.
“I hope they laugh, maybe tear up, and leave feeling lighter and more connected—to the music, to each other, and to their own stories. It’s a night to remember—for all of us.”
Her supporting cast includes Misty-Ann Knights Balbosa, Dennis Smith, and Dean Williams.
Misty-Ann majored in classical and operatic voice and trained under the country’s top vocal coaches. She’s starred in Brian MacFarlane’s Broadway-themed productions in 2023 and 2024 and featured in Spectacular Christmas Joy in 2022 and 2023.
Dennis Smith is a seasoned pannist, arranger, composer, producer, and educator. In 1993, he was crowned the first Soloist Winner of the prestigious Pan Ramajay Competition.
For over fifteen years, Dennis has toured internationally as a pan musician and vocalist with the Royal Caribbean and Princess Cruise Lines.
During his career, Dean Williams was a lead guitarist and producer for acts such as Machel Montano and Xtatik, 3Canal, and Destra Garcia. He has performed at several jazz festivals including those in St Lucia, Tobago and St Kitts.
The globe trotting guitarist is also a composer, and educator who specializes in teaching jazz and classical guitar.
