<Cool & Smooth T20 tournament to be expanded>
ST JOHN’S, Antigua – Organiser of the Cool & Smooth T20 Explosion, Dario Barthley has revealed that 2025 could see the tournament being expanded to at least three other Caribbean countries.
In 2024 the tournament was held in St Kitts & Nevis for the first time, with the Molineaux Blue Runners capturing the title by defeating the Sandy Point Snappers by nine wickets.
Barthley, the CEO of BMP Sports Caribbean and the Americas, said while the 2025 edition scheduled to be held in Antigua & Barbuda was forced to be canceled, he announced that it would be returning to St Kitts & Nevis along with possibly two or three other territories.
He said negotiations were continuing as they searched for suitable windows within the cricket calendar.
“There are a few periods we are looking at and obviously because we want people to watch it, you want to get a period where there is not much going on.
“But in terms of the Cool & Smooth T20 tournaments, I wouldn’t be too worried about dates, but they will come off. There will definitely be one or two and possibly three Cool & Smooth T20s in 2025 in other territories,” Barthley said.
Reports indicate that Jamaica and Dominica are among the territories in negotiations to host tournaments there.
<Hope fails but Hurricanes thrash Strikers to move up>
TASMANIA, Australia – Shai Hope’s disappointing outing with the bat didn’t prevent the Hobart Hurricanes from registering a dominant five-wicket victory over the struggling Adelaide Strikers when the Big Bash League continued Sunday.
It was the Hurricanes’ fourth win in five games and moved them up to third in the table on eight points, behind leaders Sydney Strikers, who have nine points from six games and the Sydney Thunder, who also sit on eight points from five games but have a better run rate than the Hurricanes.
After winning the toss and electing to bat, the Strikers posted a competitive 186 for five from their 20 overs.
They were led by opener Chris Lynn who scored 49 from 27 balls and captain Alex Ross, who hit 47 from 29 balls, while Jaime Overton lashed an unbeaten 27 off 18 balls.
Hope, the West Indies’ ODI captain, then made just 11 from 12 balls, but Tim David struck an unbeaten 62 off 28 balls with six sixes and three fours to lead the Hurricanes to 187 for five in 18.4 overs.
Opener Mitchell Owen contributed 37 and his partner Matthew Wade scored 27 in an opening partnership of 61 inside five overs to give the Hurricanes a blazing start.
