Signal Secondary School has been attempting to make a return to the top-flight Premier Division of the Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) and they stand a very decent chance of achieving it.
Two years after being dumped out of the premiership, the Tobago school, winners of multiple schools Intercol and Tobago zone titles, has a realistic chance of copping the crown in the sister-isle, but Mason Hall seems to be their main hurdle.
On Wednesday, Signal Hill (13 points) moved three points behind leaders Mason Hall, courtesy a double from Javier King which guided them to a comfortable 3-0 victory over Bishops High School. Shaquille Carrington was the scorer of the other goal, but King, for his heroics, earned himself the most valuable player award.
The Signal Hill boys are now in the second position, but they have a game in hand, against lowly Pentecostal Life and Light.
The leaders Mason Hall moved to 16 points after Sharn Barker netted a hat-trick to lead his team to a convincing 3-1 triumph over Roxborough Secondary.
The action continues on Friday from 3:40 pm, in the east, north, central and south zones of the championship division, as the race for promotion heats up. In the central zone, Couva East will be up against Miracle Ministries, and Preysal Secondary will have a date with Presentation College. All matches at 3:40 pm.
