Jermaine Morgan scored two first-half goals and assisted on another to lead Signal Hill Secondary to an emphatic 6-0 win over Miracle Ministries Pentecostal High School in their Secondary School Football League Boys Coca-Cola National Intercol quarterfinal at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Couva, on Tuesday.
With the win, Signal Hill Secondary, six-time national Intercol champions, advanced to Friday’s second semifinal at the same venue against Premier Division League winners and South Zone Intercol champion, St Benedict’s College from 4.30 pm.
A day earlier, North Zone Intercol champion Fatima College will do battle with East Zone winner San Juan North Secondary in the first semifinal at the Diego Martin Sporting Complex, Diego Martin with the respective winners to meet in the final on December 5 in Couva.
At the Ato Boldon Stadium yesterday, Signal Hill, fresh off its triumph over Scarborough Secondary in the Tobago Zone final on Friday stormed into a 3-0 lead inside the first 31 minutes with Morgan opening the scoring in the fifth, and adding the third after fellow striker, Kyle James had made it 2-0 in the 23rd.
In the second half, it was more of the same from Signal Hill with substitute Immanuel Wright extending the lead with a solo effort in the 54th minute before Antonio Hopkins capped off a brilliant team goal with a side-footed finish inside the six box, while Israel Trim, drilled home a low right-footed effort in the 89th.
For Signal Hill, the margin of victory could have been much wider, but Morgan and James were guilty of a few missed chances in the first half, with Hopkins, J’meke Watkins and Trim also wasting efforts as well after their introduction.
In the end, Signal Hill was too much for Miracle Ministries, and set up a rematch of their 2022 semifinal when they lost to St Benedict’s College while both teams battled to a 1-1 draw in their Premier Division encounter earlier this year.
