T&T’s Cher­dine Sylvester and Cyra Ram­cha­ran joined com­pa­tri­ot and de­fend­ing cham­pi­on Make­da Bain in the Girls Un­der-14 Sin­gles semi­fi­nals of the Cen­tral Amer­i­ca and the Caribbean Ten­nis Con­fed­er­a­tion (COTECC)-Bar­ba­dos In­ter­na­tion­al Un­der-14 Ten­nis Tour­na­ment via con­trast­ing quar­ter­fi­nal wins on Monday in Bar­ba­dos.

Af­ter qual­i­fy­ing for the main draw as the run­ner-up from Group Two with a 1-1 record be­hind Cana­da’s Kate­lyn Pa­su­la, Sylvester se­cured a semi­fi­nal meet­ing with the top-ranked Bain af­ter she swept past fel­low T&T play­er Suri Ram­cha­ran 6-3, 6-1, while third-ranked Cyra Ram­cha­ran bat­tled past St Kitts/Nevis Shreya Rawat 6-2, 4-6, 7-6 (4) and will come up against sec­ond-ranked Pa­su­la in her fi­nal-four match on Tues­day.

Both Bain and Pa­su­la were hand­ed quar­ter­fi­nal byes af­ter top­ping their round-robin pools at the Ray­mond Forde Na­tion­al Ten­nis Cen­tre in St Michael on Sun­day.

In Group One, Bain, who al­so won the dou­bles ti­tle last year, blanked Suri Ram­cha­ran 6-0, 6-0, and Bar­ba­di­an Ava Warn­er 6-0, 6-0, while in Group Two,

Pa­su­la beat Sylvester 6-0, 6-2; Cy­belle Fer­ri­er of Suri­name 6-0, 6-0; and Grena­da’s An­abelle Stanis­laus 6-1, 6-0.

Hills leads six T&T boys in­to quar­ters

The T&T boys con­tin­gent al­so dom­i­nat­ed in their round-of-16 match­es, with Josi­ah Hills, No­vak Mal­colm, Christo­pher Khan, Jack Brown, Jay­sean Wells and Oliv­er Har­ra­gin all ad­vanc­ing to the quar­ter­fi­nals.

The top-ranked Hills whipped USA’s Kr­ish Tal­la 6-3, 6-3 and will face Bar­ba­di­an Zane Kir­ton next af­ter the lat­ter oust­ed T&T’s Ja­cob Jacelon 6-3, 6-1, while fourth-ranked Mal­colm crushed St Kitts/Nevis’ Bran­don Bris­bane 6-0, 6-2 to set up an all-T&T quar­ter­fi­nal with Khan, a 6-2, 6-2 win­ner over St Lu­cian San­jay Lake in their last-16 en­counter.

In the bot­tom half of the draw, Brown hum­bled coun­try­man Justin Dun­can 6-0, 6-2 and plays com­pa­tri­ot Wells for a place in the semi­fi­nals af­ter the lat­ter stopped St Lu­cian Den­ney Es­ta­va 6-2, 6-4, while sec­ond-ranked Har­ra­gin out­classed the USA’s Hen­ry Mar­tin 6-1, 6-0 and will face El Sal­vadore­an Ma­teo Gutier­rez, who won 6-1, 6-0 over T&T’s Jaiden Gor­mandy.

In the Boys Dou­bles, T&T’s Dun­can and Mal­colm beat Bar­ba­di­ans Liam Cave and Joshua Franklin 6-2, 6-1 in their round-of-16 match, but Gor­mandy and Bar­ba­di­an Cruz Thorn­ton fell to the USA’s Mar­tin and Tal­la 4-6, 2-6, while Luke Bel­lamy and Dy­lan Clif­ford of T&T were beat­en by Bran­don Bris­bane of St Kitts/Nevis and Gar­rick Pil­grim of Bar­ba­dos 2-6, 2-6.
