T&T duo, Jeron Thompson and Kael Yorke, will be among the 28-member University of Indianapolis “Greyhounds” men's and women's swim and dive team hoping to lift the NCAA Divison II Nationals title, this week.
The event begins Wednesday (March 17) with Thompson, the first in action at Birmingham CrossPlex in Alabama and goes until Saturday (March 20).
Thompson will face the starter in the men’s 50 yards freestyle today on Wednesday and along with Yorke are will line up as part of their university’s 200 yards medley relay team for their Time Finals.
On Thursday (March 18), Yorke will make his championship debut in the men’s 100 yards butterfly while both T&T swimmers are also set to feature for their schools’ 400 yards medley relay splash as well.
On Friday, Thompson will return to action in the 100 yards backstroke while he is also carded to compete in the 100-yard freestyle on Saturday, the final day of the meet.
The Greyhounds are currently ranked third on both sides behind Great Lake Valley Conference-foe Drury and powerhouse Queens (NC).
Last month at the GLVC Championships, the 20-year-old Thompson was among the stand-out swimmers for Indianapolis with two gold medals, two silver and a bronze.
Thompson swam to gold in a Championship record-equalling time in the men’s 100 yards backstroke in 47.11 seconds which equalled the 2015 GLVC Championship time set by Bryan Wiener of Lewis University.
The 47.11-clocking by Thompson was also under the NCAA ‘B’ standard qualification time of 49.20.
Thompson and Yorke had started off the championship by swimming the first and third leg respectively on their way to victory in the men’s 200 yards medley relay in a time of 1:26.68.
And in their second relay event of the opening day, Thompson added a silver medal after he swam the lead-off leg as part of the 200 Yards freestyle relay four-some which ended in 1:18.88.
His fourth medal, a bronze, came in the 100 yards freestyle in 43.78 while he ended with a silver in the 400 yards freestyle relay in 2:55.38.
Yorke’s other top placings were sixth in the men’s 100 yards butterfly in 48.50 seconds, which was under the NCAA ‘B’ standard qualifying time of 49.13; and eighth in the 200 yards butterfly in one minute, 49.16, which was faster than the NCAA ‘B’ standard mark of 1:50.13.
