Thornton, Campbell-Frost reach Sunshine Snacks women’s final

Lee-Anne Thorn­ton moved to with­in a win of com­plet­ing the tre­ble in this year’s Sun­shine Snacks Tran­quil­li­ty Open Ten­nis Tour­na­ment af­ter she stormed past Madi­son Khan in their Women’s Open Sin­gles semi­fi­nal at the club’s courts on Vic­to­ria Av­enue, Port-of-Spain, Wednesday.

Thorn­ton booked a spot in her third fi­nal of this year’s com­pe­ti­tion with a com­pre­hen­sive 6-0, 6-4 de­feat of young­ster Khan and will do bat­tle with fourth-ranked Cather­ine Camp­bell-Frost in the fi­nal af­ter the lat­ter got the bet­ter of sec­ond-ranked play­er and Thorn­ton’s women’s dou­bles win­ning part­ner Cameron Wong, 6-7(5), 6-1, 4-0 re­tired, in the oth­er fi­nal-four clash.

So far this tour­na­ment, Thorn­ton won the Mixed Dou­bles ti­tle with her hus­band, An­drew Thorn­ton, over Ni­rav Dougdeen and Madi­son Khan, 6-3, 7-5, and then took home the Women’s Dou­bles crown with Wong af­ter whip­ping Farah Chau­ti­lal and Cather­ine Camp­bell-Frost 6-1, 6-4, on Thurs­day.

On Thurs­day, the top-ranked An­drew Thorn­ton and sec­ond-seed­ed Kale Dal­la Cos­ta will be fan­cied to win their re­spec­tive semi­fi­nals against Ke­shan Moonasar and Vaugh Wil­son from 3.30 pm.

On Tues­day in the quar­ter­fi­nals, Thorn­ton, who cap­tured the Mixed Dou­bles ti­tle with his wife, Lee-Anne Thorn­ton, on Sun­day last, bat­tled past eighth-ranked Dun­stan De­noon 6-3, 7-6(3), while sixth-ranked Moonasar up­staged his Men’s Dou­bles win­ning part­ner and fourth-ranked Zach­ery Byng 6-4, 6-2, and on the oth­er side of the draw, sec­ond-ranked Dal­la Cos­ta ral­lied past Seve Day 5-7, 6-2, 6-3, and third-ranked Wil­son pun­ished Ethan Am­mon 6-0, 6-1.
