Renny Quow, Asa Guevara, Shakeem McKay and Jereem Richards were T&T's last chance of medal at the World Athletics Championships in Hungary but the quartet placed seventh in heat one of the men's 4x400 metres relay event.
The local team, running in the order above, clocked a season's best three minutes and 01.54 seconds but failed to advance to Sunday's final at Budapest23. Winning the opening heat was the USA team of Trevor Bassitt, Matthew Boling, Christopher Bailey and Justin Robinson with a time of 2:58.47.
In second place was the Indian foursome of Muhammed Anas Yahiya, Amoj Jacob, Muhammed Ajmal Variyathodi and Rajesh Ramesh 2:59.05. The other qualifiers were Great Britain (Lewis Davey, Charles Dobson, Rio Mitcham and Alex Haydock-Wilson) and Botswana (Zibane Ngozi, Baboloki Thebe, Laone Ditshetelo, Leungo Scotch) who had identical times of 2:59.42.
Also finishing ahead of T&T were Japan (Naohiro Jinushi, Fuga Sato, Kentaro Sato, Yuki Joseph Nakajima) with 3:00.39 and the Czech Republic (Matej Krsek, Pavel Maslak, Vit Muller, Patrik Sorm) with 3:00.99 in fifth and sixth place, respectively.
In the second semifinal, Jamaica's quartet of Rusheen McDonald, Jevaughn Powell, Zandrion Barnes, and D’Andre Anderson sped to victory with a season-best time of 2:59.82, followed closely by France team of Ludvy Vaillant, Loic Prevot, David Sombe, Teo Andant, who also clocked a season-best of 3:00.05, and Italy team of Davide Re, Edoardo Scotti, Lorenzo Benati and Alessandro Sibilio, who crossed the with a 3:00.14-timing.
The Netherlands (Liemarvin Bonevacia, Terrence Agard, Ramsey Angela, Isaya Klein Ikkink) rounded off the list of finalists, finishing third in semifinal heat two, also with a season's best time of 3:00.23.
