T&T's mixed doubles team of Anthony Allum and Sigourney Williams had a win-and-loss record on Wednesday that saw them reach the semifinals of the Caribbean Area Squash Association Championships in the British Virgin Islands before being booted out.
Williams, in her last hooray at the championships, combined with Allum to form an almost unstoppable duo. However, in the opening quarterfinal match, the T&T pair was made to come from behind, as they went down to the team of Brady Holmes and Mehar Trehan of Jamaica in the first set 11-6.
Thereafter, it was all the team in red, white, and black, producing a battling performance to level the scores 11-9. Later, they delivered an identical 11-9 triumph to seal the win that took them to the semifinals where they faced the pair of Dominic Wilson and Sarrayah Yearwood of Barbados.
This time though, they were swept aside in straight sets 11-2, 11-7 to make their exit from the tournament.
Earlier in the men's doubles, T&T's team of Seth Thong and Nicholas Lequay failed to get out of the blocks, facing the Barbados team of Aidan Paris and Alex Stewart in the preliminary round. But that was not their day on the courts and they surrendered after two sets to the Bajans 11-2, 11-6.
Also, the team girls' team of Josie Thong and Maya Francois struggled in their opening match to the Bermudan team of Tyler Komposch and Gabrielle Turchiaro, losing in their first appearance on the court 11-5, 11-4.
Action in the tournament continues today with battles in the teams' categories.
