The University of T&T (UTT) captured two of the three Fast5 titles up for grabs in the Courts All Sectors Netball League over the weekend.

Playing at the Eastern Regional Indoor Sports Arena in Tacarigua, UTT on Saturday defended its Premiership Division crown, won the Championship honours and the following day, placed second in the Alternative category.

The University team led by shooting from goal-shooter Kalifa Mc Collin-Lopez and goal-attack Shaniya Morgan, dominated the Premiership Fast5 competition. The format included the winners moved to the winning bracket and losers to the losing bracket still with a chance to progress to the final in the first round. The game is played with five players instead of the usual seven and there is no limit to substitutions, which can be made at any time during the match. The winner on either side of the brackets meets in the final.

In the opening round, UTT beat Jabloteh, 44-8 to into the winners' bracket while Unit Trust Corporation (UTC) Sparks ended up in the losers' bracket after falling to MIC, 47-9. The winners' bracket semifinal saw UTT ease past MIC, 52-20, to reach the final while UTC upstaged Jabloteh, 24-17 to become the other finalist.

In the title match, UTT blew away UTC, 51-12. This after leading at the end of each quarter, 8-0 in the first, 22-1 at the half and 35-6 in the third before sealing the huge 39-goal win and retaining the Fast5 title. In the shooting circle for UTC in the lopsided title match were Crystal Noel-Cockburn (goal-shooter), and Genesis Clifford and Liliah Matthews, who shared the goal-attack bib.

In the Championship Division, UTT with shooting from Aquila Blugh (goal-shooter) and goal-attacks Jelissa Goodridge and George-Ann Horsford, earned the Fast5 title after beating the University of the West Indies (UWI), 30-14.

In the battle of the universities, UWI held a narrow one-goal (9-8) lead at the end of the first quarter thanks to shooters Maikea Bramble (GS) and Tishanna Alexis (GA). UTT though fought back and secured a close 13-11 advantage at halftime. However, UTT had its best shooting quarter in the third session scoring 10 compared to UWI's two to pull further ahead, 23-13, heading into the fourth period. Unfortunately, UWI could not make a comeback and settled for the 16-goal defeat.

The Alternative Division final turned out to be the closest of the three title matches with Defence Force emerging with a 26-24 win over UTT on Sunday.

Adrianna Moreno and Aaliyah Davis, who shared the goal-shooters bib and goal-attack Sydele Wiseman had UTT narrowly ahead in the first two quarters, 6-5 in the opening stanza and 1-13 at the halfway mark. However, Defence Force rallied back and took a 25-18 lead in the third. UTT fought back in the fourth and final period, outscoring the army/coast guard combination unit, 6-1, but it was not enough and lost by two goals.

Shooting for the winning Defence Force team were goal-shooter Nickeisha Peters-Williams and goal-attacks Maria LaFoucade and Diamond Sobers.
