Woods tops Elite Men Road Race

Tariq Woods of Evo­lu­tion Cy­cling Acad­e­my rode to his sec­ond straight vic­to­ry in the Elite Men’s 65km ride when the T&T Cy­cling Fed­er­a­tion Road Chal­lenge Se­ries No 3 on Sun­day from Cou­va to Debe and back to Cou­va.

The race start­ed with a rolling start from the Ato Boldon Sta­di­um in Cou­va Main gate be­fore it moved east to­wards the Cou­va Fly­over, turn left on­to the Uri­ah But­ler/Solomon Ho­choy High­way to Chase Vil­lage on­to the fly­over to head south to Ghan­di Vil­lage Round­about, Debe, turn on the round­about then head north to­wards Cou­va, ex­it­ing on the left be­fore the Cou­va Fly­over.

The race then turned right on the round­about on­to Rivulet Rd, be­fore tak­ing the sec­ond ex­it (by the gas sta­tion) to fin­ish on the straight close to the bus shed, and when the dust was cleared the 22-year-old Woods who won the 118km ride last month was the over­all win­ner ahead of Tajhae Browne of An­tigua & Bar­bu­da and Ja­di­an Neaves of Raiders Cy­cle & Mul­ti­sport who fin­ished sec­ond and third re­spec­tive­ly with Heat­wave’s En­rique De Co­mar­mond and Syn­del Sama­roo com­plet­ing the top five fin­ish­ers from the field of 66 rid­ers who start­ed with 52 be­ing able to com­plete the dis­tance, and Zion Puli­do, be­ing un­for­tu­nate­ly dis­qual­i­fied.

Among the par­tic­i­pants in Sun­day’s event were cy­clists from the Pan Amer­i­can re­gion as well who ex­e­cut­ed their learn­ing from the Track and Road Train­ing Camp which was held at Cou­va from Ju­ly 1 to 5.
